These custom low-profile replacement feet replace the factory foot on the rotation collar of your lens and also serve as the Arca-Swiss style quick-release plate for your lens. No additional quick-release plate is needed. It makes your lens handle better on a conventional tripod head, such as a ball head, and also makes it easier to pack.

The AP-609 Quick Release Replacement Foot for the Sony 400 f/2.8 GM OSS from Wimberley is an anodized 6061 aluminium plate that is Arca-type compatible for use with most clamps and heads on the market. By replacing the original factory foot, the AP-609 adds rigidness and stability and reduces flex and vibration while mounted on a head. The lower profile of the plate provides better balance when mounted on a head as well. If you're going to use the optional safety stop screws, Wimberley recommends using a clamp with channels, which allow the screws on the foot to slide back-and-forth.
The AP-609 Replacement Foot fits the Sony 400 f/2.8 lens and serves three main purposes:
1. Added Stiffness over the factory tripod mounting foot connected to a lens plate, reducing flex and vibration.
2. Functions as the Arca-Swiss style quick-release plate for your lens.
3. Creates a more ideal geometry for using your lens on the Wimberley Sidemount Head and Sidekick, allowing the lens to balance optimally.
