From a digital community to South Africa's largest camera store
In 2004, Hedrus and Norma van der Merwe had a simple idea: build an online community where South African photographers could connect, share knowledge, and find the gear they needed to shoot better. That community became Outdoorphoto - and over 21 years it has grown into the country's largest photographic retailer, with two physical stores in Gauteng and a nationwide online presence.
What hasn't changed is the ownership. Outdoorphoto remains proudly 100% founder-owned. Hedrus and Norma are still hands-on in the business, and that independence shapes every decision - from the brands we stock to how we train our team. There are no shareholder mandates here, just a genuine commitment to the South African photography community.

Yes , Outdoorphoto delivers to every corner of South Africa. Standard delivery is R120 (2–4 business days). Orders over R650 qualify for free standard delivery. Premium delivery (1–2 business days) is R225 to main centres. Orders placed before 14:00 are typically dispatched same day.
