Full-frame, low-light image capture

The FX3’s full-frame image sensor is equipped with innovative light-gathering techniques to capture sharp images even in low light. The standard ISO sensitivity of 80-102400 for movies can be increased up to 409600.

Wide dynamic range, greater expressiveness

The FX3 offers an exceptional dynamic range of over 15 stops for well-lit indoor and outdoor scenes at all heights. Capture every detail and enjoy unprecedented cinematic freedom in colour grading.

Cinematic Colour Science with S-Cinetone™

S-Cinetone colour, developed for Sony’s FX9, is preset in the FX3 for cinematic expression. It has been fine-tuned to meet the demands of today’s content creators, with rich colour and natural skin tones that can be matched with other Cinema Line cameras without grading.

120fps 4K full focus 

Even at high frame rates, the FX3 captures detailed 4K images thanks to high-precision AF and high-speed readout. Slow and Quick mode gives you full control over the frame rate of the capture for beautiful slow-motion sequences at up to 5x (with 24p output).

10-bit S-Log3 and HDR recording for smooth gradations

The S-Log3 and S-Gamut3. Cine gamma curve enables high-quality colour reproduction shooting with a wide dynamic range and simplifies matching footage from other Cinema Line cameras during post-production. The HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR picture profile enables direct HDR (HLG) playback on compatible TVs without post-production.

16-bit HDMI RAW output 

For demanding post-production workflows, there is 16-bit RAW output via HDMI to compatible external recorders, with XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K or XAVC SI 4K and proxy files captured in-camera. RAW video output has a resolution of 4264 x 2408 [16:9], higher than DCI-4K resolution.

Enjoy rich detail and realistic colours

The FX3 features internal 4K recording, 10-bit colour depth and 4:2:2 sampling with All Intra compression combined with Long GOP compression. This allows you to take colour grading even further while retaining natural gradation for truly free-flowing editing.

Compensation for focus breathing

With the breathing compensation function enabled, the camera allows you to record movies with more stable images when used with compatible lenses. Breathing metadata can also be recorded to apply compensation with the latest Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software during post-production.

Reliable and accurate autofocus

Wide-area AF with intelligent tracking uses focal plane phase detection to persistently track the subject throughout the frame. Fast Hybrid AF focuses accurately even with shallow depth of field and at high frame rates of 120p in 4K (QFHD).

Accurate AF tracking for stability

Tracking keeps focus steady on your subject so you can concentrate on composition. Real-time Eye AF ensures accurate focus on the face and eyes, and Real-time Tracking is based on Sony’s unique AI recognition algorithms.

Smooth transitions and tactile focus control

The FX3 features seven levels of AF transition speed for easily creating rack focus, and five levels of AF subject shift sensitivity, which allows the user to customise how easily the AF switches to or stays on the fixed subject. You can also select the subject you want to focus on by tapping on the LCD monitor.

High performance mobility wherever you go

Compact and lightweight, the FX3 is designed for high mobility. A detachable handle and accessory mounting holes allow for quick setup and storage, and smooth shooting. The frame and covers are constructed from a lightweight magnesium alloy for optimum durability and performance, even in challenging environments.

Removable XLR handle

The XLR adaptor-equipped grip with two full-size XLR terminals can be attached to the camera's Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe for added comfort and stability in difficult shooting situations, such as shooting from low positions.

In-camera image stabilisation 

The active mode is an in-body 5-axis optical image stabilisation system that provides additional stabilisation when shooting movies. To preserve image quality, the gyro sensor accurately measures camera movement and optically compensates for it. This makes stable video possible even when shooting handheld without using a gimbal, while walking, and in 4K resolution.

Front and rear indicator lights 

Indicator lights on the front and back of the FX3 indicate whether the camera is recording at any given time. They are clearly visible to the camera operator and the person in front of the camera.

Variable Angle LCD Touch Panel

The 3.0 type LCD touch screen panel (2.36 million dots) features a side-opening design to allow for flexible positioning and improved visibility when the camera is mounted on a gimbal. The touch panel also provides intuitive menu control for many camera settings.

Controls for efficient solo capture

In addition to six customisable buttons, the most frequently used controls are within easy reach of one hand, allowing the other hand to operate the lens or balance. Usability has been optimised with multiple threaded holes on the body and handle for direct mounting of accessories.

4K/60p recording uninterrupted

For 4K/60p recording uninterrupted, the FX3 is designed with an innovative heat dissipation system. The heat sink positioning, airflow structure and quiet fan contribute to optimised cooling, even during long shooting sessions.

XLR adapter and digital input for audio quality

In addition to the camera’s convenient built-in microphone, you can connect professional microphones externally to the grip’s standard XLR connectors via the multi-interface (MI) shoe’s digital audio interface. You can select three recording formats, including 4 channels at 24-bit. You can also record digital audio by connecting a digital microphone such as the ECM-B1M, even without using the grip.

Two high-speed card slots 

Designed for next-generation shooting demands, CFexpress Type A cards support high-bitrate recording. The slots support both CFexpress Type A cards and conventional SDXC UHS-I/UHS-II cards and are identical, enabling daisy-chained/backup shooting.
