This 100-400mm super-telephoto zoom lens uses ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements to minimise colour bleeding and other aberrations. It features fast, precise AF and optical image stabilisation for handheld shooting, with up to 0.41x magnification and a 0.86m minimum focus distance at 400mm.

Super-telephoto shooting in compact, lightweight form

This 100-400mm super-telephoto zoom weighs 654g, with a max. diameter of 78.2mm and length of 164.5mm. An optional teleconverter provides up to 800mm reach, extending to 1200mm in APS-C format.

A brilliant optical design for outstanding imagery

This optical design includes two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and two aspherical elements, reducing colour bleeding and other aberrations. A 9-blade circular aperture produces smooth, natural bokeh. Maximum magnification is 0.41x, with a 0.86m minimum focus distance.

Dual linear motors deliver fast, precise, quiet AF, tracking active subjects. With the α9 III body, burst shooting reaches up to 120fps with full AF performance. The lens's optical stabilisation also works with compatible bodies for even greater stabilisation, compensating for blur common with telephoto lenses.

Comprehensive control that is easy for all

An easily accessible focus hold button lets you temporarily hold focus while composing and other telephoto-shooting functions can be assigned to it via the camera menus. A combined focus mode/range limiter switch (AF FULL / AF ∞-3m / MF) speeds up operation, while a zoom lock switch prevents unwanted lens extension when aimed downward.

Dust and moisture resistance reliability in all conditions

A dust and moisture-resistant design ensures reliable operation in outdoor conditions, withstanding morning fog when shooting birds or airborne dust at sports events. Sealing at critical joints and seams keeps dust and water droplets out.

Dedicated lens hood included

The supplied ALC-SH188 lens hood has been painstakingly designed to prevent light from entering the lens from outside its angle of view, minimising flare and ghosting.

Optional teleconverter for up to 800 mm

An optional teleconverter extends maximum focal length up to 800 mm for even greater reach. In APS-C format, that becomes an incredible 1200mm equivalent focal length that can be used to capture impressive super-telephoto images of birds or animals that would be tiny if captured with a standard zoom lens.
