Optical Performance
The 10x magnification enables clear and detailed observations of distant subjects. The 42mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability, enhancing low-light performance - ideal for use at dawn, dusk, or when peering into dense brush. The compact roof prism optical path helps maintain a smaller form factor, making the binoculars easier to handle.
The SCHOTT HT (High Transmission) glass, combined with 12 lens elements, ensures accurate colour rendition with minimal distortion. The multi-layer anti-reflection lens coating, using a high-temperature plasma deposition process, enhances balanced light transmission across the entire visible spectrum.
Phase-correcting prism coatings (P40) increase light transmission while improving contrast and clarity. The HighLux-System (HLS) maximises light throughput, improving colour rendition and contrast, while the internal baffle system reduces scattered light that can interfere with image quality. Hydrophobic AquaDura coatings on the external optical surfaces make it easier to remove dirt, dust, and fingerprints.
The lens design and integrated field flatteners reduce spherical aberration and distortion across the entire field of view, ensuring edge-to-edge sharpness. The wide 64° apparent angle of view minimises the appearance of hand shake, which is common when holding high-power optics, and offers a spacious, immersive viewing experience. The binoculars provide a 102-metre field of view at 1,000 metres.
Use and Handling
The open-bridge/dual-hinge configuration offers additional gripping surface area, enhancing handling. The large, slip-resistant centre focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather or when wearing gloves.
The adjustable interpupillary distance (56–74mm) accommodates a wide range of users, while the ±4 right-eye dioptric correction range allows users to compensate for individual optical prescriptions, ensuring tack-sharp images. Twist-out, four-position click-stop eyecups provide comfort whether you wear eyewear or not.
The long 19mm eye relief ensures comfortable use and reduces eye strain, particularly during extended observation sessions. The 4.2mm exit pupil ensures that the entire scene remains in view without vignetting, even when pupils dilate in low light.
Construction Details
The bridge design reduces overall weight without compromising strength or stability. The lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy chassis offers both robustness and portability. The protective black rubberised armouring provides a secure, slip-resistant grip in all weather conditions.
Nitrogen filling ensures fogproof performance, particularly when moving through extreme temperature changes or environmental conditions. The O-ring sealing makes the binoculars submersible to a depth of 5 metres (16.5 feet). Additionally, a proprietary varnish coating protects the metal surfaces from corrosion and wear, ensuring long-lasting durability.
