2 second timer is great for avoiding vibrations. Signal only effective when standing next to camera. Although it does work from a few meters from the camera the signal is very easily blocked by the lens or camera grip. You need to be in the frame directly in front of the camera for the signal to reach the receiver, great for selfies. It may work better for you if your camera receiver is not tucked away between the lens and the grip like on the Canon 5DIII.
