Ready to RAW

Shogun can capture RAW inputs up to 6K at 30fps and simultaneously output a standard viewable video signal via HDMI or SDI for devices that don’t support RAW formats.

With a versatile 7-inch SuperAtom IPS touchscreen for clear images and easy accessibility to the features in AtomOS, Shogun now has a new operating system and user interface. The screen is designed for outdoor usability, with a generous 2000nits, viewable even in direct sunlight. You can also adjust the screen for optimum performance in dimly lit locations.

Introducing a new version of our operating system, AtomOS 11. Built uniquely for the new Ninja and Shogun series, it looks beautiful and introduces many great new features. We’ve made the tools more visible and improved the icons so you know exactly what you’re selecting. It’s easier to use, more logical and feels more professional. AtomOS 11 unleashes the full potential of Shogun with a new firmware that optimises memory management for greater responsiveness.

Colourised Exposure

EL Zone System™ exposure referenced colourised image and ARRI False Colour

An important new addition to AtomOS 11, EL Zone and ARRI colourised exposure display is a powerful alternative to Atomos false colour. It allows Atomos monitors to display consistent colourised exposure across multiple monitors in a production pipeline. EL Zone is designed for camera operators, who can see the true and precise scene-referred dynamic range, colourised in stops, directly from the camera. It’s ideal for assessing exposure in both HDR and SDR production. An established industry standard, it’s the best way to see colourised exposure on a monitor.

TimeLapse

Set up time-lapse recording and control it from your Shogun, completely independent of your camera’s controls. Use the Shogun’s screen for accurate visual alignment and its massive removable storage for longer projects.

RecordAssist

Set a time to start recording. It’s ideal for covering pre-arranged events when you need to be somewhere else. You can even record in multiple locations simultaneously if you have several Shoguns. It’s also a safer way to cover dangerous locations without risk to you and your colleagues. Finally, it’s perfect for wildlife shooting. Want to capture the action by the riverbank at sunset? Just dial in the time and come back later.

Apple ProRes is pre-activated to use out of the box, so you can start shooting immediately. To activate H.265 and DNx, visit my.atomos.com to register your Shogun and follow the simple online instructions.

To activate Apple ProRes RAW, you need to go to my.atomos.com. There is a small additional step to get an activation token to access the codec for free. Simply plug in your compatible RAW camera to complete the process. You only need to do it once to unlock this super-flexible and unique codec without time restrictions.

NDI HD TX

NDI is a way to send video over ordinary networks (including Wi-Fi and mobile) in high quality but with remarkably low bandwidth requirements. It’s increasingly used in live production, and now your Shogun can take part in an NDI environment. The NDI TX option turns your Shogun into an NDI source, visible to all other authorised devices on the network.

PlaybackAssist

Set a time for your Shogun to play out files and even sequences. Connected to a large screen with HDMI, this is ideal for advertising and digital signage – or just displaying your work at the highest quality.

You can pair the new Shogun with a huge range of video, DSLR, mirrorless or cinematic cameras. Choose from a selection of industry-standard recording formats, including Apple ProRes. Pick the best frame size, frame rate, and codec for your project and delivery requirements. Shogun also allows you to record HDMI RAW inputs up to 6K at 30fps while simultaneously looping out standard YCC video via HDMI to non-RAW compatible devices.

VERSATILITY

Pair the Shogun equally well with smaller cameras as part of a minimal setup, or with full-size camera rigs on large-scale productions. Shogun is made from precision materials and crafted for maximum durability with a solid aluminium frame. Weighing only 360g, you can use it comfortably with a handheld camera. Shogun includes anti-rotational ⅜ – 16 mount points on the top and bottom. It ships with a ¼ – 20 adaptor for easy mounting on industry-standard equipment from a wide range of manufacturers.

Introducing RemoteView

Atomos RemoteView lets you share incoming video on your Atomos screen with other Atomos monitors, as well as with iPads, Macs and Apple TVs wirelessly. You can monitor what’s happening on-set and look through any connected camera taking the shot from anywhere in the world.

ATOMOS TECHNOLOGY

Your camera’s view, anywhere

Remote view doesn’t need expensive hardware and uses the public internet, so it’s global. But Atomos technology ensures there are no delays. You can receive up to four RemoveView feeds on a single screen. It’s all configurable from a simple web interface.

Powered by a unique combination of AtomOS 11 and Atomos Cloud Studio, you can share with the person standing next to you or someone across the globe just as easily.

SECURITY

Secure and personalised

For absolute security, you can burn a watermark into each remote video feed, so there’s no risk of copying. You can also brand your footage with your own or your customer’s logo. Or put the movie name, date, type of camera – any information you think will be helpful, burnt into your remote feeds.

Atomos RemoteView requires a subscription to Atomos Cloud Services. It uses Atomos Credits for a simple ‘pay as you go service’.

Onion skin overlay simplifies stop-motion and jump or match cuts. Capturing frame grabs live on set saves time making thumbnails and acts as a quick reference to share with the team.

It features a versatile mount that can be adapted to suit different industry-standard equipment from a wide range of manufacturers. Once locked in place the mount is highly secure and offers anti-rotation settings, so you can trust Shogun to remain in place at all times.

ATOM REMOTE

Connect. Control. Configure. Create.

The AtomRemote app for iOS and macOS has an array of controls for Shogun. It lets you configure and control your Shogun from up to 15 meters away via Bluetooth LE while you define camera connections, select Gamma/EOTF and adjust Gamut settings. AtomRemote can control playback, select monitoring modes, apply custom 3D LUTs, and view image analysis tools, including exposure and focus. Output controls include options for 4K to HD, LUT preview and HDR output.

SUPPORTED RESOLUTIONS & FRAME RATES

Add value to your production

To save space and support longer recordings, many cameras record compressed 4:2:0 8-bit video internally. If the camera is able to output video via HDMI, the quality can often be preserved in a 4:2:2 8-bit or 10-bit format. Shogun can record more colour information and immediately add value to your production with your existing camera rig.

Additionally, if you are shooting Log footage, the ability to bypass internal compression will offer the best possible dynamic range. Shogun is designed to maximise the quality of your videos and allow you to extend every aspect of your creative vision. Shogun also includes 12G-SDI input, the standard on high-end cinema cameras, including the Sony FX series, Panasonic EVA1, and Canon EOS C series. The robustness and utility of SDI is critical for the productions that rely on it. SDI RAW provides the ultimate experience in terms of flexibility and quality, which makes Shogun the ideal choice for big-budget filmmakers around the world.

WIRELESS SYNC

Perfectly synchronised

Atomos AirGlu™ is included with the Shogun and adds wireless timecode, sync, and control technology. AirGlu locks multiple Atomos devices or compatible cameras, audio recorders, and software applications together so that they share the same frame-accurate timecode. It is also able to relay recording, battery status, and disk capacity information to the server unit. Any AirGlu device can act as the server unit, which means you’ll no longer need a huge budget or get involved in time-consuming post-production workflows to produce perfectly synchronised, multi-camera video. AirGlu BT is the Bluetooth timecode sync protocol adopted by many camera and audio manufacturers and AirGlu RF is the long-range sync and control protocol between Atomos connect products.

ATOMX SSDMINI DRIVE

Record without limitations

The ability to record up to 6K using advanced edit-ready formats including ProRes RAW, ProRes, and DNxHD/HR requires fast, robust, and expansive storage. Shogun supports removable SSD drives, which provide the space and sustained performance to meet these needs.

AtomX SSDmini drives are more compact than standard SATA SSDs and offer an affordable alternative to an SD card of similar capacity or performance. They support up to 4TB storage, sequential read speeds of up to 550MB/s and write speeds up to 500MB/s. The AtomX SSDmini drives are able to record up to 150 minutes of 4K ProRes. Measuring 8cm long, 7.5cm wide and weighing as little as 88g, the custom-built drive neatly fits into the Shogun Connect without impacting the overall footprint of the device.
