Our story
From a digital community to South Africa's largest camera store
In 2004, Hedrus and Norma van der Merwe had a simple idea: build an online community where South African photographers could connect, share knowledge and find the gear they needed to shoot better. That community became Outdoorphoto, and over 21 years it has grown into the country's largest photographic retailer, with two stores in Gauteng and nationwide delivery.
What hasn't changed is the ownership. Outdoorphoto is still 100% founder-owned, and Hedrus and Norma are still hands-on in the business. That independence shapes every decision, from the brands we stock to how we train our team.
