The Tokina AT-X 11-16mm Pro DX-II is an update to the widely popular and award winning AT-X 116 Pro DX, 11-16mm f/2.8 lens.
Adjustments have been made to the coating for slightly improved optical performance.
This compact ultra wide-angle zoom has a bright constant f/2.8 apertureAPERTUREAperture, shutter speed and ISO form what is known as the exposure triangle in photography. Aperture refers to an opening inside the lens, similar to the iris of your eye, that changes in diameter to control the amount of light that enters a camera. Aperture is expressed in f-stops: the lower the number, the larger the aperture, e.g. f/1.4 is larger than f/8. A larger (or wider) aperture allows more light to pass through the lens to the sensor (film) as a picture is taken, particularly useful in low-light conditions. A larger aperture also produces a shallower depth-of-field, and thus more background blur. make viewing and auto focus possible in lower light situations but still maintaining a reasonable size and weight.
Two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and two aspheric glass allow the proprietary optical design to achieve excellent contrastCONTRASTThe difference between areas of different brightness levels in a photograph: A high-contrast image has a greater difference between light and dark areas, whereas a low-contrast image has a narrow range of tones. Contrast is used to direct a viewer’s attention to a photographer’s subject either with colour contrast (bold versus duller colours) or tonal contrast (bright versus darker tones). and sharpness as well as controlling chromatic aberration.
Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the lens mount for manual focusing.
The lens is also designed to stand up to the rigours of daily use by photographers in a wide variety of shooting conditions and environments.
Other than the optical coating change there are no changes to the Canon mount.
The AT-X 116 PRO DX-II for Canon uses the same AF motor and AF drive system as the the previous model.
