Discover the new G Master

Sony has outdone themselves with the fast, versatile and lightweight FE 24mm f/1.4 GM Lens. Using cutting edge technology, they took the popular wide-angle lensWIDE-ANGLE LENSHas a short focal length, hence a field covering a wide angle, ideal for architectural, interior and landscape photography where the photographer may be unable to move further away from the scene to photograph it. Wide-angle lenses come in both fixed-focal length and zoom lens varieties. (ideal for everything from landscape, street and nature photography) and refined it to the point that it consistently produces high-resolution, soft, naturally bokehBOKEHPronounced: /ˈboʊkɛ/, /ˈboʊkeɪ/ [boh-kay] or /ˈboʊkə/ [boh-kə] Originating from the Japanese word Boke (ボケ), meaning 'blur' or 'haze', it refers to the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. It has also been defined as the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light. Bokeh depends on various aspects of lens design. Aperture design has the largest effect on Bokeh, and generally a lens with a more rounded aperture produces a more pleasing, natural Bokeh. and excels in low-light conditions.

Stunning f/1.4 resolution in a mobile prime lensPRIME LENSA photographic lens used as an (1) alternative, fixed focal length alternative to a zoom lens or, (2) more traditionally, as the primary lens in a combination lens system. In the first sense, a prime lens is known for having a larger maximum aperture and consequently offers greater shutter speeds, having advanced optics and weighing less than zoom lenses, albeit less flexible, because of their simpler construction with less moving parts. In the second sense, a prime lens refers to the primary lens when paired with other optical devices. A prime lens's focal length is fixed and the photographer is required to move closer or further to achieve the correct image composition.

Unsparing application of cutting-edge technology achieves refined G Master performance with consistently high resolution and soft, natural bokeh even at the widest F1.4 apertureAPERTUREAperture, shutter speed and ISO form what is known as the exposure triangle in photography. Aperture refers to an opening inside the lens, similar to the iris of your eye, that changes in diameter to control the amount of light that enters a camera. Aperture is expressed in f-stops: the lower the number, the larger the aperture, e.g. f/1.4 is larger than f/8. A larger (or wider) aperture allows more light to pass through the lens to the sensor (film) as a picture is taken, particularly useful in low-light conditions. A larger aperture also produces a shallower depth-of-field, and thus more background blur. setting. The lens is both compact and the lightest in its class1, maximising portability. It also offers fast, precise AF drive, top-level control and reliability.

Advanced optical technology achieves spectacular resolution even at f/1.4

Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements in an optical design that meets stringent G Master requirements contribute to consistently high resolution throughout the image area. Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements are also included to effectively suppress chromatic aberration. These innovative optical design that minimises sagittal flareFLAREOccurs when a point light source such as the sun or an artificial light (that is brighter than the rest of the scene), hits the front element of a lens resulting in a lack of contrast, haze, or unwanted semi-transparent objects being present in the image. You can avoid lens flare with a lenshood or filters, however, the effect is also useful for bringing artistic elements into an image, such as sun rays peaking out from behind a rock formation. so that point light sources are accurately reproduced.

State-of-the-art optical design faithfully reproduces point sources

A new optical design incorporating two precision XA elements suppresses sagittal flare, a common aberration in large-aperture lenses. Sagittal flare can cause an unnatural spreading of point light sources that become more pronounced towards the image periphery.

Innovative optical design in a compact, lightweight lens

A new optical design that reduces overall lens diameter by employing two XA elements, one for the front element that is normally the largest in a lens, combines with a newly developed DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) focus drive system to achieve a remarkably light total weight of just 15.7 oz (445 g). The reduced size and weight of this lens make it an ideal match for compact E-mount bodies, providing outstanding mobility.

Breathtaking G Master bokeh

An 11-blade circular aperture enhances soft, natural looking bokeh achieved through the advanced design and a manufacturing process that includes precise control of spherical aberration. A minimum focusing distance of 0.79 ft (0.24 m) and maximum magnification of 0.17x mean close-up capability that, combined with the wide-angle view of the lens, can produce dramatic perspectives that also make good use of deep, lush bokeh.

Fast, precise, quiet AF for stills and movies

A newly designed high-power DDSSM optimised for this lens, delivers approximately three times greater thrust than the previous focus drive system. The increased power of the new DDSSM system provides faster, more precise, quieter autofocus drive capability, for outstanding performance when shooting stills and movies.

Professional control and dependability for stills and movies

Customisable focus hold button, aperture ring, aperture click switch, Linear Response MF, dustproof and moisture-resistant design, and fluorine front-element coating adds up to fully professional control and reliability for movies as well as stills.
