Combining a super telephoto length, bright aperture, and lightweight design, the FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS Lens is designed for their E-mount cameras and is ideal for sports, news, wildlife, and nature photographers. The f/4 aperture and eleven-blade circular diaphragm provide great depth of field control for isolating subjects, as well as maximising performance for low-light shooting situations. Three fluorite elements and one XA (extreme aspherical) element reduce chromatic aberration and colour bleeding, while two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements and a Nano AR lens coating further increase performance and image quality by reducing flare, ghosting, and spherical aberrations while shooting in harsh conditions. The front element is further protected by a fluorine coating that helps prevent dirt and fingerprints from sticking while making it easier to wipe clean if they do become attached to the lens surface.

600mm f/4 G Master super-telephotoTELEPHOTOA lens with long focal length capable of making distant objects appear nearer thus larger. Essentially, it isolates and magnifies the subject so that it appears as a full image when shooting from a distance. Telephoto lenses are ideal for photographing subjects that are further away, such as wildlife and sports photography. lens

Fast autofocus plus stunning G Master resolution and gorgeous bokehBOKEHPronounced: /ˈboʊkɛ/, /ˈboʊkeɪ/ [boh-kay] or /ˈboʊkə/ [boh-kə] Originating from the Japanese word Boke (ボケ), meaning 'blur' or 'haze', it refers to the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. It has also been defined as the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light. Bokeh depends on various aspects of lens design. Aperture design has the largest effect on Bokeh, and generally a lens with a more rounded aperture produces a more pleasing, natural Bokeh. in a lightweight, well-balanced, mobile lens. Sony's original XA lens and XD linear motor technologies contribute to peak optical and mechanical performance, making it possible to capture dynamic, eye-catching images from afar. Ideal for sports, news and nature photography.

XD Motors for fast, precise, tenacious AF

Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide fast, precise AF and reliable tracking. The SEL600F40GM brings out the best in modern camera bodies, effortlessly maintaining accurate focus on fast-moving sports and wildlife subjects. A control algorithm developed specifically for these motors contributes to fast positioning of the large focus group with minimum delay and vibration.

New large XA element delivers superb resolution and bokeh

An exacting G Master optical design uses three fluorite elements to suppress chromatic aberration, which can be problematic in telephoto lenses. A large XA (extreme aspherical) element is also included to eliminate onion-ring bokeh. Each lens is individually calibrated to achieve the ideal balance between resolution and bokeh. Optional high-performance 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters* with XA elements are also available.

*Maximum apertureAPERTUREAperture, shutter speed and ISO form what is known as the exposure triangle in photography. Aperture refers to an opening inside the lens, similar to the iris of your eye, that changes in diameter to control the amount of light that enters a camera. Aperture is expressed in f-stops: the lower the number, the larger the aperture, e.g. f/1.4 is larger than f/8. A larger (or wider) aperture allows more light to pass through the lens to the sensor (film) as a picture is taken, particularly useful in low-light conditions. A larger aperture also produces a shallower depth-of-field, and thus more background blur. with the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters is f/5.6 and f/8, respectively.

Outstanding mobility: lightest in its class*

A weight of just 3.04kg, including tripod mount, makes this lens balance ideally with compact, lightweight E-mount camera bodies for easy handling and control. Smooth, precise panning is possible handheld or monopod-mounted.

Reliability and durability for challenging conditions

A dust- and moisture-resistant design* provides reliability for outdoor use in challenging conditions, and the front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants. A rigid magnesium alloy is used not only for the lens barrel exterior and tripod mount area but for critical areas of the barrel interior as well, ensuring maximum strength and durability.

*Not guaranteed to be 100% dust- and moisture-proof.

Advanced features support professional needs

When the FULL TIME DMF switch is ON, manual focus is automatically engaged when the focus ring is operated, even in the AF-C mode. Built-in Optical SteadyShot image Stabilisation includes MODE 2 for panned shots and MODE 3 for dynamic sports or wildlife action. MODE 3 also provides a more stable viewfinder image for easier framing.
