The Sigma 500mm f/4 DG HSM OS Sports lens is the first prime telephoto DSLR lens in Sigma's critically acclaimed Sports line. Designed for professional photographers, the 500mm f/44 Sports is a rugged dust and splash proof lens created to weather the harsh conditions that many photographers find themselves in when shooting outdoors. Exceptional image quality is achieved through rigorous optical design testing while autofocus and quality is maintained when paired with the Sigma TC-1401 1.4X and TC-2001 2X teleconverter. An advanced Optical Stabiliser (OS) touts a two mode switch, #1 for handheld photography, #2 for panning and tracking vertically and horizontally. The new Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) touts 1.3X the torque of previous models for fast and snappy focusing while the state-of-the-art electromagnetic diaphragm is included for Nikon mounts and provides a new degree of performance for high-speed shooting. USB Lens Dock and Sigma Optimisation Pro allow for lens customisation including personalised focus limiters, 4-zone micro focus tuning, OS preview behaviour, AF performance enhancement. Transverse chromatic aberration is greatly controlled through optical design and 500mm f/4 Art allows for rear filters to be used, while a Sigma Weather Resistant (WR) Protector filter is provided with purchase.

Two mode 4-stop optical stabilisation for sharp images

The Sigma 500mm Sport features an intelligent optical image stabilisation system called OS. The OS system is rated at 4-stops and will provide sharp images at up to 16 times slower shutter speeds than non-stabilised lenses.

The system features 2 shooting modes. Mode 1 provides the user with conventional lens-shift stabilisation; and in Mode 2 an acceleration sensor works with the OS to provide stabilization while you move/pan the camera horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, to provide image stabilisation that is suited towards panning shots.

Autofocus function switch with preset focus modes

An autofocus function switch allows you to set your own autofocus specification. The lens can remember the focus position of your choice or turn off AF until it is needed.

Stronger & faster HSM autofocus motor

A new Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provides 1.3 times the torque of previous models, and provides faster focusing throughout the entire focus range.

Retains autofocus with TC-1401 & TC-2001 teleconverters*

The Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports lens is fully compatible with Sigma's TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2.0x teleconconverters and will even maintain autofocus capability*. When combined with the TC-1401 1.4x teleconverter the lens will be equivalent to a 700mm F5.6, and with the TC-2001 2x teleconverter it will be equivalent to a 1000mm F8.

* Only camera bodies with F8 autofocus will be able to maintain AF with the TC-2001 2x teleconverter.
