Fuji push button

Lensmate offers several unique engraved designs, some based on traditional Japanese family crests, in both aluminium and brass. The soft release buttons are shaped to nestle comfortably under the index finger first joint, enabling a softer shutter release and allowing lower shutter speedSHUTTER SPEEDAperture, shutter speed and ISO form what is known as the exposure triangle in photography. Shutter speed is the length of time that a single frame is exposed for, more specifically how fast the shutter opens and closes to permit light entering the lens, to reach the sensor. A slow shutter speed means a longer exposure time useful for motion blur like the silky look of flowing water, whereas a fast shutter speed means a shorter exposure time useful for freezing the appearance of motion in images like a hummingbird in flight. It is measured in seconds starting at 1 second and halving our doubling in time. For example: 1/2s, 1/4s and 1/8s are all fractions of a second with 1/2s being the longest exposure time, 1/4s half of that and 1/8s another half etc.s without shake. Of course, if you prefer using your finger tip, or it just lines up better with the shutter button you might prefer the non-engraved concave brass model, though there's no reason you couldn't use the convex model as well (mushroom shape).

Lensmate soft-release button

Since the thread in the shutter button is tapered, the thread of the soft release button has to be tapered as well. All Lensmate soft release buttons are equipped with an o-ring around the threaded shaft which creates friction between the soft release and shutter, preventing loss.

Important tips

It is the nature of release mounts to be very shallow, this is because if they were made any deeper adding a soft release button could interfere with the camera’s electronics.

The button is nice and secure when used as intended, pressing down. The button does not do well with shear forces, so if it is bumped from the side going in and out of a camera bag or caught on a neck strap it can weaken the connection to the camera. This is true of all brands of soft release buttons.

To install

  • Place your camera on a hard table like surface
  • Use your thumb and first two fingers to make a tripod
  • Hold the top of the button in your hand tripod, pressing down while turning-be sure to keep the button perpendicular to the camera to avoid cross threading
  • Turn until the button is tight
