Packing apt imaging capabilities within a svelte-yet-versatile design, the Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is an advanced compact camera featuring a large sensor, fact processing, and a flexible zoom lens. The 20.1MP 1" CMOS sensor uses a stacked design, which couples with the DIGIC 8 image processor to realise fast AF performance, quick full-resolution shooting up to 20 fps, and UHD 4K30p video recording. Complementing the sensor and processor is a 5x zoom lens, which covers a 24-120mm equivalent focal length range for wide-angle to short-telephoto fields of view. An f/1.8-2.8 maximum aperture range suits working in difficult lighting conditions as does an Optical Image Stabiliser, which compensates for the effects of camera shake. Rounding out the G5 X Mark II's design, the camera features a pop-up 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder, 180° tilting touchscreen LCD, and has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wirelessly connecting to a mobile device.

Best Ultra-Slim Compact Camera

Want DSLR-level results but don’t want to carry the camera and various lenses around? The compact PowerShot G5 X Mark II gives you stunning image quality while conveniently letting you carry it on any adventure. It has a 20.1-MegapixelPIXELThe shortening of 'picture element', a basic unit of programmable colour forming the dots that make up an image. Pixel size depends on a camera’s resolution, which is measured in megapixels (MP), meaning millions of pixels. The more pixels on a sensor, the smaller they have to be to fit. An image's number (or density) of pixels correlate to the amount of information and image holds. Cameras with more pixels on the sensor have a higher pixel density and thus more resolving power, able to capture smaller details with much more clarity and accuracy. Higher resolution images can be cropped more agressively and also produce better quality large prints. 1.0-inch Stacked CMOS sensor and powerful DIGIC 8 processor for fast and gratifying results. The 5x Optical Zoom with image stabilisation provides range and clear, steady images and video, while a built-in pop-up EVF lets you frame your subjects with ease. For variety, you can shoot 4K 30p or Full HD 120p video, be creative with Panoramic and Star Shooting Modes, and shoot continuously up to 20 fps (or 30 fps with RAW burst mode). With the PowerShot G5 X Mark II camera, quality and creativity don’t have to be left behind just because your DSLR was.

20.1 Megapixel 1” Stacked CMOS Sensor

The PowerShot G5 X Mark II camera features a new 1.0-inch 20.1 Megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, which helps achieve high image quality and high performance at the same time, delivering gorgeous, detailed images. It also enables fast continuous shooting and fast autofocus that helps you capture important moments.

DIGIC 8 Image Processor

The DIGIC 8 Image Processor helps produce high image quality and fast operation, even in low light. When using high ISO ISO Exposure is controlled by three elements: Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. The ISO speed determines how sensitive a camera's sensor is to incoming light. A higher ISO speed absorbs more light, resulting in a brighter exposure, however, a higher ISO also results in more digital noise in low-light conditions. Cameras with larger sensors (like full-frame cameras) typically have higher ISO speed capability and produce less digital noise at high ISO settings. Digital cameras include a control for adjusting ISO speed, some of which can be set to adjust automatically in combination with certain other exposure settings. ISO is indicated in numbers usually starting at 100 and going upward (200, 400, 800, 1600 etc.) doubling in sensitivity each time. Most cameras also indicate 3rd stop intervals (100, 125, 180, 200 etc.)settings, the image processor helps keep results sharp and detailed in virtually any lighting situation. Powerful all around, the DIGIC 8 Image Processor helps ensure your photos and videos look sharp and lifelike with minimal noiseNOISEThe appearance of random pixels scattered over a photo, similar to the grain effect seen in film photography, which degrades photo quality almost as if it is stained. It occurs when taking photos in low-light conditions, with very slow shutter speeds on high sensitivity (ISO) settings. It is caused by amplification done by the sensor when high ISO settings are used. You can counteract digital noise by lowering the sensitivity (ISO) setting of your camera - the lower the ISO setting, the lower the noise in the image. Typically cameras with larger sensors (like full-frame cameras) will inherently produce less noise due to larger pixels on the sensor. or grain.

5x Optical Zoom LensZOOM LENSAllows a camera to, unlike a fixed-focal length or prime lens, change smoothly from a long shot to a close-up or vice versa by varying the focal length. A true zoom lens, also called a parfocal lens, is one that maintains focus when its focal length changes. Due to more moving parts, zoom lenses often produce images of slightly lesser quality than their prime lens counterparts. However due to the inherent flexibility of being able to vary the focal length, they are extremely popular for photography where composition needs to be adapted quickly - such as at weddings, for example. (24-120mm f/1.8-2.8) with Optical Image Stabiliser

With a 5x optical zoom lens, a range of 24–120mm, advanced Optical Image Stabilisation and an apertureAPERTUREAperture, shutter speed and ISO form what is known as the exposure triangle in photography. Aperture refers to an opening inside the lens, similar to the iris of your eye, that changes in diameter to control the amount of light that enters a camera. Aperture is expressed in f-stops: the lower the number, the larger the aperture, e.g. f/1.4 is larger than f/8. A larger (or wider) aperture allows more light to pass through the lens to the sensor (film) as a picture is taken, particularly useful in low-light conditions. A larger aperture also produces a shallower depth-of-field, and thus more background blur. range of f/1.8(wide)- f/2.8 (telephotoTELEPHOTOA lens with long focal length capable of making distant objects appear nearer thus larger. Essentially, it isolates and magnifies the subject so that it appears as a full image when shooting from a distance. Telephoto lenses are ideal for photographing subjects that are further away, such as wildlife and sports photography.), the PowerShot G5 X Mark II camera is suitable for group photographs, landscapes, and even close-up photography. The PowerShot G5 X Mark II’s lens works in conjunction with the camera's sensor and image processor to deliver sharp images from edge to edge and from wide-angle to telephoto.

4K 30p Video

With the help of the DIGIC 8 image processor and the stacked CMOS sensor, enjoy recording non-cropped 4K movies at a frame rate of up to 30p for high definition, cinematic results. Beautiful time-lapse videos can be created in 4K simply and easily with the dedicated Time-lapse Movie mode.

0.39-type OLED Pop-up EVF with Approx. 2.36 Million Dots

The PowerShot G5 X Mark II camera features a 0.39-inch OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) built-in pop-up EVF with approx. 2.36 million dots – making the camera compact in size. The electronic viewfinder (EVF) provides a bright, sharp and colourful view of the subject at hand, and shows a crisp and vivid image with minimal distortion, even when the eye moves off the centre of the visual field.

Touch and Drag AF

Equipped with Touch and Drag AF, the PowerShot G5 X Mark II camera makes it easy to select a focus point quickly without taking your eye away from the viewfinder. Using the Touchscreen LCD, it's as simple as pointing to the desired area of focus. The chosen AF point is then displayed in the camera's EVF for quick confirmation.

Continuous Shooting up to 20 fps (up to 30 fps with RAW Burst Mode)

With autofocus tracking on to help keep your shots sharp, you can maintain the speed and shoot at up to 20.0 fps. The PowerShot G5 X Mark II can also shoot at up to 30.0 fps during RAW burst mode – ideal for sports, wildlife, moving subjects or anything unpredictable.
