Canon Mirrorless M50 Specifications

The Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera forms part of the Canon EOS M Series Mirrorless Cameras and is perfect for professional photographers and videographers on the move. Both a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor are used to deliver high sensitivity and fast camera performance to suit both stills and video applications. A flexible ISO ISO Exposure is controlled by three elements: Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. The ISO speed determines how sensitive a camera's sensor is to incoming light. A higher ISO speed absorbs more light, resulting in a brighter exposure, however, a higher ISO also results in more digital noise in low-light conditions. Cameras with larger sensors (like full-frame cameras) typically have higher ISO speed capability and produce less digital noise at high ISO settings. Digital cameras include a control for adjusting ISO speed, some of which can be set to adjust automatically in combination with certain other exposure settings. ISO is indicated in numbers usually starting at 100 and going upward (200, 400, 800, 1600 etc.) doubling in sensitivity each time. Most cameras also indicate 3rd stop intervals (100, 125, 180, 200 etc.)100-25600 range, with an expandable ISO 51200 setting, suits working in a variety of lighting conditions, and the processing capabilities minimise noiseNOISEThe appearance of random pixels scattered over a photo, similar to the grain effect seen in film photography, which degrades photo quality almost as if it is stained. It occurs when taking photos in low-light conditions, with very slow shutter speeds on high sensitivity (ISO) settings. It is caused by amplification done by the sensor when high ISO settings are used. You can counteract digital noise by lowering the sensitivity (ISO) setting of your camera - the lower the ISO setting, the lower the noise in the image. Typically cameras with larger sensors (like full-frame cameras) will inherently produce less noise due to larger pixels on the sensor. and afford Auto Lighting Optimiser for notable clarity in various shooting situations. UHD 4K video recording is also supported at 23.98 fps, along with Full HD 1080p60 and HD 720p120 settings for slow-motion recording. Additionally, the processor affords a 10 fps continuous shooting rate, fast camera startup time, and short interval times between each frame for a more intuitive and efficient shooting process.

Dual PixelPIXELThe shortening of 'picture element', a basic unit of programmable colour forming the dots that make up an image. Pixel size depends on a camera’s resolution, which is measured in megapixels (MP), meaning millions of pixels. The more pixels on a sensor, the smaller they have to be to fit. An image's number (or density) of pixels correlate to the amount of information and image holds. Cameras with more pixels on the sensor have a higher pixel density and thus more resolving power, able to capture smaller details with much more clarity and accuracy. Higher resolution images can be cropped more agressively and also produce better quality large prints. CMOS AF offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. Eye Detection AF can also be used for portraiture and helps to prioritise focus on a subject's eye for ensured sharpness.

When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognise subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.

Combination IS uses the built-in 5-axis digital image stabilisation in conjunction with lens-based image stabilisation systems to effectively minimise the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. This benefits recording while walking or moving, and can also be used in conjunction with lenses featuring optical IS for more effective overall stabilisation.

Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens

Included with the camera body is the versatile standard zoom Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens, which provides a 24-72mm equivalent focal lengthFOCAL LENGTHMeasured in mm, it is the distance from the focal point of a lens (its centre or curved mirror where light converges) to the plane of the image sensor (film) when an object is in focus. A shorter focal length lens sees a wider image and a longer focal length brings your subject closer. For example, a 15mm lens sees a very wide image and is perfect for landscape photography. Conversely, a 500mm lens sees a very narrow image, brings the subject much closer and is thus great for subjects that are far away, like a bird in a tree. With zoom lenses, its minimum and maximum focal lengths are indicated, for example, as 24-105mm. A zoom lens allows you to change the lens’ focal length, with shorter (wide-angle) and longer (telephoto) options, whereas a fixed focal length lens requires you to move back and forth to find the correct image composition. range. Three aspherical elements help to control chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range and an optimised lens placement works to reduce flareFLAREOccurs when a point light source such as the sun or an artificial light (that is brighter than the rest of the scene), hits the front element of a lens resulting in a lack of contrast, haze, or unwanted semi-transparent objects being present in the image. You can avoid lens flare with a lenshood or filters, however, the effect is also useful for bringing artistic elements into an image, such as sun rays peaking out from behind a rock formation. and ghosting. An Optical Image Stabiliser works to minimise the appearance of camera shake by up to 3.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting and an STM stepping motor provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens

Offering a versatile range of telephotoTELEPHOTOA lens with long focal length capable of making distant objects appear nearer thus larger. Essentially, it isolates and magnifies the subject so that it appears as a full image when shooting from a distance. Telephoto lenses are ideal for photographing subjects that are further away, such as wildlife and sports photography. perspectives, the Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is an 88-320mm equivalent zoom designed for APS-C-format EOS M-series mirrorless cameras. The optical design incorporates one aspherical element and one Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) to control chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the long-reaching zoom range.

Complementing the optical design and telephoto reach is an Optical Image Stabiliser, which compensates for up to 3.5 stops of camera shake to benefit handheld shooting with slower shutter speedSHUTTER SPEEDAperture, shutter speed and ISO form what is known as the exposure triangle in photography. Shutter speed is the length of time that a single frame is exposed for, more specifically how fast the shutter opens and closes to permit light entering the lens, to reach the sensor. A slow shutter speed means a longer exposure time useful for motion blur like the silky look of flowing water, whereas a fast shutter speed means a shorter exposure time useful for freezing the appearance of motion in images like a hummingbird in flight. It is measured in seconds starting at 1 second and halving our doubling in time. For example: 1/2s, 1/4s and 1/8s are all fractions of a second with 1/2s being the longest exposure time, 1/4s half of that and 1/8s another half etc.s. An STM stepping motor is also featured, which produces fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance to support both stills and video recording applications. For increased control, full-time manual focus operation is also available for making fine-tuned focus adjustments.
