The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens is the L-series version of Canon's popular 100mm Macro lens. As an L-series lens, it offers the utmost in optical construction, including ultra-low dispersion lens elements and moisture and dust proof seal structure on the barrel. Its 100mm focal length is effective for portraiture and other telephoto applications and as a macro lens with 1:1 magnification and a 30 cm minimum focus distance, it is ideal for life-size close-up imaging.

The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens is the L-series version of Canon's popular 100mm Macro lens. The lens features Hybrid Optical Image Stabilization with up to four-stops of shake control for effective low light capture and with the vibration gyro and acceleration sensor it compensates for both angular and shift camera shake during close-up shooting. An ultrasonic focus motor (USM) provides quick and quiet auto-focusing and full-time manual focus override enables precise manual focus eve in AF mode. A focus range limiting function offers three distance ranges to control the range in which the AF looks for focus, thus reducing focusing time. Internal focus system means that the barrel does not extend when focusing, which is crucial when shooting macro.
This lens includes a dedicated lens hood and is compatible with an optional Canon tripod collar and Canon Macro Ring Lite.

The Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 L IS USM Macro lens is Amazing!
There are many technical opinions, but I am just an artist and being a woman, I solely like a lens by the quality of my images and the actual results from my shoot.
I can shoot close-ups and macro photographs of Jewellery, Portrait and Macro Beauty and also flowers with only one lens and I can get the DOF I need. The images are sharp and I can capture stunning close-up shots without the need of a tripod. I feel that if your budget is a bit tight, you can shoot different art with the one lens. I have a 50mm and also a 24-107mm in my kit, but the 100mm Macro lens is my favourite.

Lovely lens, I have used it for portrait shots as well as macro photography. Super fast lens. I also like the fact that it is not too heavy, especially when running around chasing insects. It is great in that you don't have to get too close to insects and disturb them, while taking the photo.

I loved the old Canon EF 100mm - it was an excellent partner and trusted friend.
The EF 100mm f/2.8L IS has a slightly more plastic feel, but the superb quality of the glass and the wonderful image stabiliser makes it even better than its predecessor.
Excellent for close-ups. Great for food photography. A great choice for studio portraits and stock stills.
A must-have for your camera bag.

This is the best macro lens I have ever owned - the hybrid stabilisation works really well and simply gives better images. The lens is very sharp, too, and works well as a general-purpose lens, so it is very versatile. The size and shape is good for macro work too - easy to hold and to mount.

I have owned the 100mm F2.8L IS for more than 5 years now, bought second hand in great shape. Sharp, fast and great as a macro lens. I use it hand held and the IS works wonderfully. Great background blur and bokeh wide open. Also versatile as a portrait lens for low natural light people photography.
