Like with any reel, video, podcast or photoshoot, planning is the first step to get the best results, so that was what we did to create our very first ASMR video. Amori Viljoen, our customer relations manager, eagerly volunteered as tribute to help the content team build a LEGO Polaroid OneStep SX-70 camera model for this exciting assignment.
What is ASMR?
ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is both a sensory and psychological response to certain environmental stimulus. ASMR utilises sound to induce this tingling sensation typically felt running from the scalp down to the spine. For some people, it can be incredibly calming, increase focus and even help some individuals to fall asleep. Examples of the sounds used in ASMR include whispering, page turning, scratching and tapping, crinkling or squishing a variety of materials.
Key steps for recording your ASMR video
1. Plan: Decide on the concept of your ASMR video.
2. Set up: You’re going to need a quiet space with little to no background noise and soft lighting to add to the relaxing atmosphere
3. Gear selection: Since ASMR is all about sound, investing in a quality microphone with condenser is the most important aspect of your gear. To record, you can use a camera, or your smartphone.
4. Experiment: People respond differently to ASMR sounds, so testing to see which ones you do best, or which ones your audience responds to is an important step.
5. Record the video: For the best results, make sure you position the microphone close to the source of the sound, take your time and focus on clarity.
6. Edit the video: There are many different options available when it comes to video editing software, and choosing the right one for you can depend on what device you used to record the video, as well as your budget. No matter which one you decide to use, make that the sound is clear with no unwanted background noise or interruptions.
7. Upload and share: Once you are happy with your edits, it’s time to upload and share the video to the platform of your choice. Remember to write a good description, including relevant tags to make it easy for ASMR listeners to find your video.
