Sony announces two new super lenses

Perfect for wildlife, this 200–600mm super-telephoto zoom can reach as far as 840mm or 1200mm with 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters (sold separately). Aspherical and ED glass elements achieve superb resolution throughout the zoom range, while Sony’s Nano AR Coating cuts flare and ghosting.

Thanks to an inner zoom mechanism, the length of the lens does not change while zooming so you’ll have a stable handheld operation with consistent balance.

Stay clear of shaky footage – with optical Image Stabilisation, you can shoot sharp images handheld at super-telephoto focal lengths with several integrated modes that offer stabilisation for panned shots, easier framing of erratic sports or wildlife movement. A 5-axis stabilisation is available with compatible α bodies.

For focus control, customisable focus hold buttons are provided in three locations 90° apart for easy access when shooting in any orientation.

For remarkably fast focusing, Sony’s DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) system has the power and precision needed to drive the lens’s mechanism. With high positioning accuracy, not a single movement is wasted or a single moment lost. Pinpoint autofocus is achieved with blazing speed, without the noise thanks to it being incredibly quiet.

A fluorine front element coating plus a dust and moisture-resistant design ensure high reliability in challenging environments. This coating makes it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

When the Full Time DMF switch is activated, manual focus is automatically engaged when the focus ring is operated, even in the AF-C mode. Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilisation includes three modes, one for panned shots, one for dynamic sports and the other for wildlife action. Mode 3 also provides a more stable viewfinder image for easier framing.
