I made a rookie mistake tonight. Packed up my gear and was heading to the car, all disappointed with the colourless grey mass above me, when suddenly the heavens were set alight. I set off at Usain Bolt speed back toward the good ol' fence to catch the last little bit of the light show. My stock standard fence comp had to do. It was over in about 2 minutes

Was a bit of a no show at Blouberg, just some pinks off to the right of TM that clipped so badly that even at -2 stops the red channel was still blown. Nice work

Philip... You have not made an amateur mistake... Bottom line is you got the shot.. maybe not as you intended to but you have it. You made a bad judgement call on the weather based on what you saw and were expecting. We should be there also to experience the moment and stay put to just enjoy regardless of if photo opportunity knocks or not.
      Great shot after all

I think most of us have packed up on a shot thinking the light wouldn't peak, only to be faced by this when we drive home .
Epic light, love the colours, classic comp indeed...

Just to add my admittance to doing the same thing! Your recovery from your "error" is great which is not the sign of an amateur! Great classic shot
