This past weekend Philip Perold, myself and two others braved the wolfberg mountains in conquest of some images. Camped out and loved every minute of of. There was lots to shoot adn even more to absorb in just sheer awesomenss of the surrounding wilderness. I have done my best to do some kind of justice.
This is a simple comp taken just after sunset to tone down my own shadow which kept getting in the way.

I think I am safe uploading this one as I know Phillip will upload something completely different.

This is simply beautiful Stuart and there is nothing simple about it, not even the comp

A winner indeed, and as Rian said, nothing simple about this. Great detail, comp and scene. Love the angle.

      Thanks guys
We were very lucky with the conditions with regarsd to the mon, wind and sky. I though at first it would be nice to have some epic light (clouds) but I think that might have made things more difficult to compose.

Simply awesome. I don't think any of my shots of the arch came out this nicely. Nice detail throughout.

love the composition here Stu and great exposure control/processing to boot...would love to visit this area...

I kind of agree with you - having a flaming sunset will be nice but it would take the focus off what you want to be shooting in this spot

Phillip. I very much doubt that and if you feel that way we will just have to go back and you can try again. ;-)

Nice, clean work - and great timing and detail. On the comp, I feel that the large, front bush competes with the actual arch itself which in my view would be the main area of interest. This image would work better with a less dominant FG and something that complements the arch. A leading line is not always available, but a few smaller, off centre bushes could have worked to draw interest to the arch.

My first thought in seeing this was "I love it!", after looking at is some more, I still do, but I find myself looking at the bush and thinking, "is it really that interesting that it is given such prominence?". It almost feels as if the bush was used to take the role of obligatory foreground subject.

That said, this is still one of my favourite images I've seen in recent times.
