    Default Studio lens

I'm new in studio photography and only starting off now. What would a good studio zoom lens(mm) for mainly portrait-, family- and model photo's? Thanks. Gerrie

Why zoom lenses for studio work? You have great control over the setup, use primes.

I hear what you say. I have a 50mm, 55mm, 100mm macro and a 200mm. Will that be good for studio shoots? All manual lenses...

When I do studio work I use a wide angle lens for material and a prime (50 mm) for people. The 50 mm will be a 80mm on my camera. It all depends on the Av of the lenses.

I will always recommend a 50mm f1.8 for studio work. you can add lots of others too, but that one is probably the first one I will go for.

Personally I will not rely on MF for studio work - unless you shoot products and not people.

If you want a zoom - 24-70 or the 24-105.

Not the 24-105 f4 is not that sharp, I regret buying it should rather have gone for the 24-70 F2.8, depends on the budget 85mm F1.2 , 135mmm f2 comes to mind

Jip. If I could get a all-in-one studio lens setup, it will be the 24-70mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, and a macro (100mm or 105mm depending on brand).

Thanks every one! Had a look at the Sigma 24-70/2.8 EX ASP AF for my Pentax K10D, looks great! My manual Pentax lenses - 100mm macro f4, Pentax 55mm/1.8 and the 50mm/2. I also have the Pentax SMC-DA18-55/3.5-5.6 AL and Sigma macro 28-80/3.5-5.6 ASP. The 24-70/2.8 is surely in a different class. Will use my manual lenses for set-ups.
