Weather permitting I hope to be at Rietvlei tomorrow morning. Hope that there is that little bit of cloud to get a couple of good sunrse shots. Still hoping to do a Piet Venter and get some shots of the cheetah.(wishful thinking?)

You got more cloud than you bargained for, Terrence. With the weather we've had so far this year I am "seriously" thinking of adding a Nikonos to my gear.

Does anyone know if Rietvlei will be open tomorrow (9 Aug)? Tried calling them but didn't get through.
Also what time do the gates open and how much does it cost?
    I have never been there.
    Thanx

At the moment the entrance times are 06:00 - 16:00.
As far as I know the prices are. Persons 13 years and older R35.00.
    Children 6 to 12 years R20:00.
Persons 60 years and older with proof of age and disabled persons R20:00.
Go early and enjoy the day.

AFAIK Rietvlei is open every day except possibly Christmas Day. I will most likely visit Rietvlei tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks Kobus. I also phoned them earlier today with no one answering. Good to have confirmation. Want to tomorrow morning.

Just drive around with sun (mostly) on my left; Island View Hide and Coots Corner. I avoid the picnic site on weekends and public holidays.

Adults now pay R40 entry even if you arrive after 12h00, you still pay for a full day.

    Hi All,

Hoping to pop in at Rietvlei tomorrow.

Can anyone perhaps confirm the gate times?

Perhaps recent sightings of the elusive cheetahs?

Will be there in either Ford Laser (with ODP sticker) or L/R Discovery or L/R Defender Pick-Up

    Anyone else going?

    Thanks in advance.

    Martin

I may be going to JHB in about two weeks time and thinking about packing my camera and staying over at Rietvlei in one of the chalets for two nights. What is the chalets like? Can you reccommend it? I have never been there just seen it on the internet.

Very rustic - I would not describe them as "chalets".

Hi ti actually opens at 530 in the summer. The place is however very wet at present. The low water bridge was closed yesterday due to flooding as well.
