Went to Rietvlei this morning - it is looking great. Fortunately the water has subsided and all areas could be reached.

Went to Rietvlei on Sunday and did not see much. Must be a quiet time of the year for birds, or I missed them!

Interesting - my yard used to have hundereds of birds 2-3 years ago and it has seriously dwindled to NOT much! Is it a trend? I am not in a residential area and off any main roads so it is quiet. Even one of the HUGE trees in a neighbouring property used to have thousands of birds roosting there at nght and the noise from them was deafening - not any more - can only hear a few birds. SAD!!

Nope late morning and early afternoon from about 10 - 2.

Usally there are some birds at the little bridge with the stopping area. On Sunday only a few swallows and Egyptian geese with chicks.

It depends very much on weather conditions. 10 days ago I saw lots of activity - animals and birds. Last Satruday morning it was exceptionally quiet, presumably because of the cool wind that was blowing at the time.

Was at Rietvlei on Sunday morning. It started off a bit chilly and windy but turned into a lovely day. Lots and lost of birds.
Hoepoe, Malachite KF, Giant KF, Amethyst Sunbird, Widow Birds, Eagles, Black shouldered kites, White fronted bee eaters, various egrets, pin tailed wydah, yellow billed ducks, geese and more. Must say thanks to the guy from Germiston (did not get his name) for the tip on the Giant KF. Might go again on Wednesday.

Went on Sunday (10.03.2012). The morning was quite chilly and windy, but it turned out to be a lovely day. Managed to photograph Malachite KF, Giant KF, Hoepoe, Eagle, Black shouldered kites, white fronted bee eaters, amethyst sun bird, various widow birds, pintailed wydah, egrets and other water birds. Was a good day out. Thanks to the guy from Germiston (did not get his name) for the tips on the Giant KF. Still getting used to my 7D so no pics good enough to post just yet
