Default Pictures of the new D200

www.nikongear.com has some pictures of the actual camera. These were originally posted on the official UK Nikon site and then taken down (not before we got them though!).

Initial indications are that it is a 10.2MP body in DX format, 5 FPS and with a RRP of approx. US$1,700.

Also new is a 18-200mm DX VR lens and a weird looking flash accessory called the SU-800.

    Official release was announced today.

See www.Dpreview.com for Phil Ashleys preview / first impressions.

    Pretty impressive camera.

Yes, I saw that this morning. Indeed, it does look like a helluva camera. What's most impressive to me is the fact that FINALLY we don't have to sell the house to get a pro Nikon that will meter with manual focus lenses!

I estimate the local price will probably be in the region of about R20k. Expect to see a glut of used D100's and D70's on the market anyday now...

For sure - I'll have to get by the house government ;-) but it seems like I'll have to change my user name ;-)
    - the autofocus is better than D70,
    - the old lens support
    - mirror lockup
    - seems to have B/W mode as well, judging from one of the review pages.
    - Multiple exposure
    - ... agh it's just impressive! ...

Has someone heard anything about it's dynamic range?

All in all I think it sounds very much like an F100, which is my all-time favourite film Nikon. As far as dynamic range goes, I don't think you can expect anything radically different to what has gone before.

Nikon usually don't rush products to market with major flaws (unlike some other producers, whos name we are not allowed to mention).

I can't wait to upgrade my D70 to the D200! I'll be keeping my D70 as a backup (let us not forget about it's awesome 1/500s sync flash).

    Hi all

Just wanted to say I had the previledge to play with one today.
It is surely an awesome camera. Something worth waiting for.
It is suspected to retail for R17500
The layout is the same as D2X without the grip.
Expected in SA around mid Dec. But dont hold me to that.

    Hedrus you lucky fish!

I'll be looking at getting a second D70/D70s body from someone upgrading to the D200. Keep me in mind. I'll just have to dream a bit longer of the D200 still.

How much do you want to pay? Mine has only seen just over 3,000 frames and comes with the ML-? remote. I'll also toss in a Lowepro Magnum AW bag if the offer is good.

I will PM you soon and we will discuss. I obviously want to pay as little as possible!

Yeah, I was just discussing this with my local store manager yesterday afternoon and he reckons I would be better off keeping it. To think I paid R15,500 for the kit only 14 months ago...

But this D200 is 95% of everything I want in a DSLR. I have a big collection of MF glass which I can use on the D70, but carrying around a handheld meter is a right pain.

I've seen a D70s body for R5500 at Kameraz the other day. I wonder if more becomes available if even better prices will be available?

Its a good kamara to keep.

Thumbs up Re: Pictures of the new D200

Hedrus your shop window just looks so much nicer with all those Nikon bodies on display Thanks for the effort to become a Nikon supplier, i would much rather buy it here than being helped at some other retailer.

    Hey Fanie

Jy maak my hart tjoklets klop.

Very kind words. I would like to add that I might be a more formidable Nikon dealer than expected. Try me out sometime
