    Nazeem...

The first point is that the Canon lens has an image stabilisor, which does help considering tihs lens is an F/4 lens. It has also received many good reviews, and i think for an F/4 lens, the price is a good one. The sigma lens is not part of its EX series, so to be honest i would opt for the Canon. Have a good look though at the lens to make sure that it is in good condition, take a few shots with it, and make sure the IS is working. Remember that the Canon lens is an S lens, which means that it is a short back focus lens that works only with cameras that are not full frame, i.e. the 20D, 350D, etc. What camera do you use? I have the 20D and if i were posed with the above option, I would go for the Canon.

I've advised many Canon users to get the 17-85 as their everyday lens. It has a good focal range, USM and IS. At the price it's a steal.

    Why is it being sold?

Make sure all is well with the baby before taking it home.........

The Sigma, as said above, is non-EX. I'll steer clear.

No Brainer for me - Get the Cannon.

Just keep in mind its an EFS lens so if you have a film body or thinking of upgrading to FF later you will not be able to use any of these lenses....

    Cheers

When I purchased my D350 I did not even bother with the kit lens and just went for the body and the 17-85 EFS and I am very happy with this lens. It seems to be sharp (I have not compared it to a L series lens) and the IS function work great.

I later got an 70-300 IS USM and this combination of 2 lenses cover everything from 17-300 mm.

The absolute cheapest price I could get a new lens for at the time was R5700 so if it is good condition it is a bargain
