    Default Canon 40D write-up

A heads-up for 40D buyers is available at Luminous-Scapes site, link here

Seems to have something for lots of Canon users.

arrrrrgghhhh, just waiting for the sale of my lens to go through. Hope they are not all out before then. Hopefully today or tomorrow I will know, will run to Hedrus as soon as I can, or maybe I will drive, it's quicker.... I WANT MY 40D (although right now I would settle for a 30D or even a 20D, major camera withdrawals)
My enthusiasm is all there, the experience I am still working on.

    Nice link - thanks, Geurt.
I wonder how many people, like me, are considering this as an alternative to the 1D Mk III? I appreciate that the camera is not as good as a 1D Mk III, but look at it this way: For the same money, I could buy a 40D, the replacement 50D (when it comes out) and it's replacement, the 60D! And since I have already been waiting six months for my 1D Mk III, it seems highly likely that I will get my 60D before my 1D Mk III!

From own experience, to get the first 1 Series is the most difficult and most expensive. The follow up thereafter "costs" the same than obtaining a new
prosumer version aka around R10K which is much more affordable. So, the issue really is to take that first expensive step and then to sell the older 1D at a good as possible price.

That said, I personally feel that the 40D with its 6.5 fps rate is now a very, very attractive BIF camera and not a lot to choose between the 40D and 1D M3 in terms of operational functionality. Image wise, yes there is a difference but the 1.6x makes it very, very attractive and the choice can easily fall towards the 40D.

Yes, I downloaded and studied the manuals for both the 1DMK3 and 40D but I have not decided to spend any money "yet".

I am told the manuals are printed separately in Ireland apparently and are being delivered directly to SA, then added to the camera packs here, just the timing a little out.

Can you imagine the announcement if things had turned out differently: CANON 40D MANUALS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE SHOP, CAMERAS TO FOLLOW. This, IMO, is unacceptable. Were the manuals supposed to be added to the camera packs at the dealers or at Canon themselves? If Canon SA were supposed to package the manuals with the cameras, why did they distribute the cameras without them? Roger Machin should come in here and give us some answers.

Let's be honest, when I get my grubby mits on mine, the manual will probably only leave the box after a day or three ANYWAY, so no manual is not going to kill me.

No one is being forced to take delivery of the camara now. If it's really an issue, one can always wait until all is in the box before purchasing. Had suppliers held back on release for a week or so, we would be none the wiser. The option has been given ... take one now and get the other goodies after a few days, or wait a while for the full package. Me, I'll take mine now.

    And ... well said Daryn.
