Re: 350D and Sigma lens
How old is the lens?
This is a problem using old(er) versions of Sigma (and possibly other non Canon lenses) If its old (3 + years) you will need to get the lens re-chipped to work with the 350D. Only problem is this rechipping may not allow the lens to work with the 350D's replacement.
When I bought my 300D I bought a 170-500mm and had no problems. A friend of mine also bought this lens some weeks after buying his 350D so the new versions of the Sigma lens are compatable with current digital Canons at least.
I have had reports that long term compatabolity with even new (or rechipped) Sigmas may still be an issue

Re: 350D and Sigma lens
I have / had a Sigma 170-500 APO on a 350D. If you have the same lens ... sell it. I found that shooting at anything over 400mm it was as soft as marshmellow!
