This is exciting news and something I am getting directing involved in. A South African trail running enthusiast from the Port Elizabeth ,Sian O'Keeffe is putting together a brilliant event on Rhino Day 22 Spetember 2012 called Rhino Run.


The idea behind the Rhino Run is to unite the running and trail running community in the fight against rhino poaching and for the survival of one of our most iconic living treasures – our rhinos.


To show our unity as a crash* of people that understands the value of our natural resources, we are planning to organize 5 separate rhino runs across South Africa, and hopefully countless others across the world – all to be run simultaneously on the 22nd September 2102 –World Rhino Day. ( *a crash is a group of rhinos in the wild )


In South Africa each run will take place in one of the major centers – Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. I am going to be helping with the Durban leg of the event .


Sian has identified 2 causes we are hoping to raise money for through this initiative. The first one is the “EWT MyPlanet Rhino Fund” and the second is the Thandi Rhino Injection Fund.

Registration is now open for those who want to join in the runs. If you can't run then you can donate or just come to the events and take some photos and get involved so if you live close to the identified major centers try book the 22 September 2012 and join us on Rhino Run day.
