Default LR - upgrade or new ??

    I have LR3, but am considering LR4.

Aside from the obvious financial advantages, what are the benefits of a "new" LR4 package as apposed to an "upgrade" package ??

None. Adobe give you a discount as you've already shelled out for the previous version.

Henk I think that is what the "upgrade package" comes down to. You need the previous version, then this cheaper LR4 package ugrades this to LR4 .... but does this mean that I "loose" LR3 ??

What are the implications for my previously created catalogues ?

Leo are you being naughty tonight?

Leo so which is better? The upgrade or "new" package ??

    Chris,

    Maybe I'm naughty…

The upgrade is EXACTLY the same as the NEW package - only thing it is looks for a LR 3.0 before it installs and it is CHEAPER. On install on your machine the install packages sorts it ALL out seamlessly.

LR 3.x will remain. On installation your catalogue and all presets are transferred - you open your images and they will open with the SAME settings as LR3.x - you then get a checkbox that you click to update the setups to 2012. If you have made slight changes and you transfer, there is no visible changes to your image. If you have made serious settings and changes - you might have to revisit and tweak it a bit.

What really works well is how it processes highlights. One particular image has an against the light hotspot - in LR 4.1 it is streets better than the LR3.x version.

And LR 3.x? There is really no reason to keep it.

OK, No stop asking S**** questions and upgrade. The bloody thing takes a while to download, nearly 1 GB (One GB)

    Next question?

PS: Drove past your office (close to O**** (?) end of July)

as I said, my office window looks out onto their door ....

PS - just downloaded the LATEST LR3 updates, still it refuses to see the MkIII RAW files ..... so if I was in any doubt ....

You definitely need LR 4.1 (not even 4.0) to process RAW- files from the Canon 5DMK3.
When I grow up, I want to be more than just a lens pointer...
