Default 240dpi and no larger than 3MB

    Hi,

I'd like to dabble in the odd competition and one particular has a rule as :

    * Format: colour as well as black and white entries will be accepted. Each entry should be captioned, high-resolution (at least 240dpi) and not exceed 3MB in size

I've got PSE 10 and I've tried going 'image resize' and filling in the 240 ... but then the image seems to get to 800MB+ ... !

    Am I doing something wrong?
Can PSE do what the competition asked?

    Thanks!

Since DPI, or dots per inch, is a print spec I have to wonder if the competition organisers have a clue what they're talking about.

Exactly what people told me on another forum ... I just wanted to double check :/

    Thanks!

EDIT : They probably do want to print the winner - if that helps?

jip, those specs dont match ....

for elextronic submission the norm is 800 pixels on long side, and 72 dpi, and about 80% on the quality slider if file size is an issue.

For 240dpi and 3Meg limit you will need to drop the quality slider way down ,,,,,, hardly what one want to do for a competition ......

I would agree that they probably want high res images for printing, but what might work for you is to first make sure your image mode is 8 Bits, then go to the Image size window and make resolution 240 ppi..that might help.
Also, make sure you change the image type to jpg, that will bring up a Quality slider that will allow you to adjust the image size to less than 3Mb but that is in CS5, I am not totally familiar with PSE10

    Williams! +10

Forget the 240 dpi! And Chris - a 800 pixel (longest edge) image for a printed magazine will not really cut it.

If we ASSUME that the printed image has the largest side of 10 inches - you need to resize your image to have at least 2400 pixels - so make it 2500 pixels. Output to a specific size, in this case - 3MB. (You can either output a specific JPG quality, or a given size)
