Re: Nikon D800: Focus issues anyone?
I guess it means that one should insist that the shop tests the D800 before the purchase. I certainly would if I was looking at one...

Re: Nikon D800: Focus issues anyone?
Even though Nikon hasn't seem to have made a public announcement on this issue (to my knowledge), I would expect that only the 1st batches of units potentially suffer from the left focus problem.
These are things to expect when buying a unit from the 1st batch of a new DSLR model. I bought one anyway knowing that I have a 2 year warranty and a Nikon service centre not too far from where I stay. So it is very important to buy your DSLR in South Africa.
So far, Nikon South Africa has handled my issue extremely well.

The D800 is in such demand that having the camera go in for a few hours is no big deal. If you are based in CT they have to send your camera to Jhb, which takes 4 days for transportation mainly, but they supply a loan D800 for the duration. I've also been impressed by the level of service and friendliness of the staff at the service centre. My camera is producing unbelievable images now...

I think NikonSA have been amazing. Less than 20 hours to sort out. The issue is not that huge anyway - only noticeable at wide angles. Has to be fixed tho.

Hmm, I bought a D800 from Orms earlier this week, and the salesman assured me that the LF problem has not been found on SA models.
Seems that I best go and check the camera, and get it calibrated if necessary !

A rather big pain in the backside if you are living north of the Zambezi...............

After sending my D800 to Nikon to fix the left focus problem, I got it back well calibrated. No more issue at all. Thanks Nikon.

Yeah the salesman was being a salesman. But it's actually a minor problem so it's not like it's unusable - you will only notice it on wide angle and for me those focus points are the least used. But clearly you would want it calibrated.
