    Default Beginners Only Assignments

Also posted in the thread "Ideas for practicing photography"

    Attention Beginners (only) Assignments:
Rules: You may enter a maximum of two different subjects per assignment title.
You may not perform any PP work except sharpening and other in-camera parameters. You may perform cropping. If you do any other PP work and keep quiet about this - you're only BS'ing yourself. You must resize your pics for uploading - 800px on the long edge, file size around 100-150kb.
You will e-mail me a resized version of the original photo (800px again), but of the original frame as taken ie not cropped. If you don't send me the original resized version via email, I will have to drastically downsize my comments on your photo. The idea is to learn, not show off.
I will try and arrange for a special upload gallery for the beginners assignments - this will be cleared after ever second assignment. If I cannot get the big boss to give us a special gallery, we'll use the existing beginners gallery. Name your photo's according to the assignment, for example "Colour1_name of photo"
You will send me your e-mail with your shots during the last week of the month, and upload to the gallery only during the first week of the following month, so one week after you've sent me your e-mail. this is to ensure that you interpret the assignment on your own and not be influenced by other members efforts. I need you to think, not follow someone else.

Now start planning - first assignment is Primary Colours - need your emails from 29-31 July, uploads 1-5 Aug.
PS - there's a trick to this one - never said its going to be easy!!

    Thanks Simon.

Got up nice early this morning. Just after 5:00 I was standing next to the N7 taking pics of an intersection - street lights and a bit of car light trails.

    and now this thread ....

PS - Simon you DO know that in the Western Cape "primary colours" in winter consists of rain clouds.

That means you can crop the photo to upload it to the gallery but you must send the original uncropped version to SimonDP.

Oh Patsy, Patsy Patsy........Thanx to Terry (bomtek) for his very accurate explanation!!
Looking at the first comments, some of you are in trouble!!!

The idea for the uncropped but resized original is that i can advise you compositional cropping and framing suggestions. Its part of the learning curve.

The ODP big boss have agreed to let us have a dedicated Beginners Assignment gallery, where you can upload your efforts into 1-5 Aug.
Note you must send me the resized original, and e-mails and uploads in that order during the time slots allocated only. Otherwise you are disqualified, and I'll revoke all your cookie and toilet paper credits for a whole year.

The tricky part is the "trick" part of this assignment. Will you give us a hint on the trick part of the Primary Color assignment.....is it related to the histogram? Now I'm thinking a little girl with green eyes wearing a blue dress holding some red flowers won't satisfy you?

I think I know what the trick is with the primary colours thing. Primary colours are different from priMATE colours.
This is one heck of a great idea, overall. Can't wait to get stuck in.

May I submit photographs taken in the past, or must it be taken after the assignment was announced?
May I only submit the first week of August, then?

You may only submit photo's taken after announcement of the assignment, so no those taken during your beginners course practical sessions are not elligible. And I'll check the exif data to make sure!!

Do you TRULY think I was going to submit stuff that you have already critiqued on????

I am talking about other stuff I took eons ago.

But I already have a fantastic idea of what I am going to do, unfortunately my kids are here or I would have done it already.
