    Default Reinstalling/formatting mac

I want to clean/reinstall/format my mac, since software updates are such large files, i was wondering, is it necessary to use the application DVD's or does those updates contain the complete program application for stuff like Imovie, pages, Aperture, say I have the downloaded aperture 3.2.4 update, should I still start with the dvd (aperture3.0.0) ?

And security updates, do I only install the (snow leopard)second one, or should I install the first security update also(presuming this is the combo update)?
    thanks

If you're planning on upgrading to Mountain Lion, which should be out soon seeing as it's GM, I'd wait.

No, I just want to clean my mac, I'll give ML a month or two to get sorted out(tested by the early adopters) once its released

yep... I'd also wait for Mountain Lion... otherwise you might go through the whole thing again...

uhmmmmm, I started the reformatting/Cleaning process, before I left home, and should have a clean mac when I get home, so unfortunately , Ill have to do a (double,= leopard + lion in a +- months time ) installation, but was curious if its possible to just install the latest updates, or do I have to do everything (dvd+ updates) to save some time, or is the whole program 'in' the update, or is it just like a add on to the original program and you still need the info on the cd / dvd's,
    thanks.

Some upgrades are OTA (over the air) incremental updates, and the last "service pack" is all you need + your DVD. Others are the friggin full version every time you update... But again, usually it's only the DVD + last one. However, some can simply be installed with the "last upgrade" download
