Have you tried putting the car into reverse and backing up a few meters.

Birds are hard to photograph as you don’t know where they going to fly. So if they fly to close to you, it’s hard to frame them. I am not normally the one who drives
Just an update from me regarding my question: I will be purchasing the 100-300 L and I came into some money, so will be upgrading to a 7D. I will be putting my 40D up for sale soon. It has 48k actuations, and is in good nick. There is a small scratch on the body on the corner in front of the flash. as well as the sticker on the underside is a bit tired after mounting on tripod etc. it still takes amazing shotsJ What sort of price should I put it at? I was thinking R 5 000.00??

Doubt you would get R4k for a 40D today... for high actuations like that R3k might be more realistic, but I haven't really paid attention to those prices recently.

That is the reason I kept my 40D when I got the 7D. Not really worth selling. Now I keep a wide angle on it and the long zoom on the 7D when I'm in the bush. No need to change lenses = less dust in the camera.

well good luck with that....
btw, its 100 000 not 80 000 as you stated

All the buttons work like it’s brand new, as well as shutter button, which does not need replacing for years to come. I won’t let it got for less than R4.5K. Otherwise it’s not worth selling.
The canon 40D is guaranteed to 80k actuations, and after 4 years, I have only done 48k actuations. I'll keep you updated on this matter though

Re: please can someone help with Choosing a Canon lens for me
Brogan, I think you are going to end up keeping the 40D.
The prices are dropping like rocks. You will be selling your 40D against competing 1DmkII's (R3,900 to R4,500). It's like that run down golf you drove as a student, there is no real payout value if it gets stolen or dies in an accident, but the value to you as a transportation tool is huge. Keep it as a second body...
Then again, if you are not in a rush, keep it on the classifieds... maybe you get lucky!

Is this the case? As I understand it the guarantees are based on time and the actuation number more of a mean time before failure.
