I try not to take rumours seriously but some rumours you cannot help but be interested in

Re: Canon Rumour EF 14-24 f/2.8L
if its of similar quality to the nikon lens, you have no alternative ; BUY.
Canon's weak spot is wide zoom - this will sove the problem once and for all.
I hope Canon comes to the party for you guys.

Re: Canon Rumour EF 14-24 f/2.8L
Would personally love something below 17mm (I currently shoot the 17-40mm L) that doesn't become a fisheye yet... Was looking at the Tokina, but just a bit too much CA there

Willams - none of those lenses are in the class of the NIkon 14-24. That is why I am saying I hope Canon comes to the party and give you Canon guys something as good. And no this is not a Nikon / Canon debate. I shot the 16-35 (two copies) and the 17-40 (two copies) and they seriously didnt come close to the Nikon 14-24 - therefor I am talking from experience.

I have not had the pleasure of using the Nikon 14-24 but I have spoken to people whose skill and knowledge I respect and they talk about the Nikon 14-24 extremely extremely highly ( I can add you to that list now Elsa ). The Canon wide angle zooms are good, no doubt about it, but if I am going to hand over some serious hard earn cash I want to buy a legend in the making. Then I'll buy, no problem

I LOVE my 16-35 mm Canon lens.
But fact is, it is "wide" but not "ultra wide", and definately not a fish eye. Having played with a set of Tokina ultra wide and fish eye lenses I can see the need (market place) for this lens.

Re: Canon Rumour EF 14-24 f/2.8L
the BIGGEST issue I see with this lens, is that it matches up SOOO nicely with the 24-70 that's coming, and the current 70-200 mkII.... that's like 70K right there, and you've not even got a body yet. ah well....

Re: Canon Rumour EF 14-24 f/2.8L
Well I am now sorted, EF12-24 or not. Have a 16-35/2.8 Its use, places a value which I am prepared to pay for it. Given the 16-35 is 15K and the 24-70 coming in at 23K, gives us an indication that it is in there somewhere. Hmm, Im not prepared to pay that kinda money for the number of times it would be used. a used 16-35 is very fine thank you mam....

Why the fuss. Buy a Novoflex EOS/NIK NT Nikon to Canon adapter (± €170) and use the Nikon 14-24 (±R20 000) on the Canon. Adapter has no glass, thus no IQ degradation. Pro = you have it now, no rumours, cons, $$$$$

...and no AF, needs metering adjustment, etc
I have used one on my old 5DmkII and it's a nice lens!
