Newbie DSLR Photographer
Hi Everyone
This is a great forum and i am glad i have joined. Like many i have a great passion for photography and started way back in the days of 35mm 24 exposure film cameras and then onto compact digital cameras and finally after much budgets i now have my new Canon EOS 550d kit. I know its a starter kit but i am enjoying it thoroughly.
I am still new to all the terminology and hope to learn more from you members and the forum. My speciality is automotive photography but i also have a love for nature/wildlife/people/places etc. Well i photograph anything actually because i love the camera in my hands , its a special feeling one has with the love for photography.
I will hope to share my sample images on here and will be open for criticism and i believe its a good way to learn from other professionals.
Please comment on my choice of slr camera and if you have any advice then i more than willing to listen and learn.
Thanks.

welcome Vortex... you mention your speciality being automotive photography .. I am assuming that you will require a zoom (telephoto) lense, if so, look at the 55-250mm lense ... good lense for a reasonable price .. enjoy

Re: Newbie DSLR Photographer
I recently upgraded from a Canon P&S to EOS 600D, and am very happy with the choice. (There is no difference between 550D and 600D). It is suddenly a daunting task to learn all the new features and gizmos not on a point and shoot, and I am for myself, glad that I went to the entry level rather than one of the very pro cameras. (Apart from cost aspect)
There are excellent people on here who give training courses if you want to go that route.
The only way to learn is to press that camera button as many times as possible, and read the camera manual. Then post here as often as you can, and the pro's who have already welcomed you, teach us what to look at when photographing or post processing. I have a wonderful mentor/teacher, and if you are in Pta, I'll recommend him any time.
Enjoy the journey!

I guess you are not really "new" anymore then are you?! I took my first pictures on a roll-film box Brownie camera and later shot my first wedding with a flash that used glass flash bulbs, and yet thanks to the Internet and modern technology and software, I find photography more exciting, fascinating and enjoyable now than at any previous stage of its development. I am therefore also a 'newbie', because I learn something new about photography every day, and I am loving it. Come on in Vortex - the water's great!
