    The exchange rates certainly have had an effect on the prices. The Rand deteriorated by 25 % against the USD over the last year. Also the yen appreciated by 14 % against the USD. That is massive
    But I do not think that SA importers are making hay. I imported an EF 70-300 L lens from B & H and at the end of the day I only saved about 10 % and with no guarantee
    You guys mention that there should be plenty of used lenses going around. Why then are there so few 500mm lenses on offer ?

    L lenses are expensive but it seems that most middle class are able to afford new vehicles so I guess it's all a matter of priorities.
    It only takes a year to save up for that R24000 MkII lens if you purchase a R100K vehicle instead of a R200K vehicle since the repayments will be R2000 instead of R4000 per month.
    So 100K for an L lens only takes 4 years of saving. Easy peasy.
