Default Huge D7000 DX Kit - What should I be asking?

    Hi there.

After much deliberation and practical hands-on time, I have realised that I enjoy (and shoot with) my mirrorless kit much more than I do the DSLR system I own. It's just a personal preference thing, no reflection on the quality of the gear involved. Like they say, the best camera is the one that's with you, and my NEXes tend to go with me, while the D7000 gets left at home.

But before I brave the classifieds, I was hoping to get some advice as to what price point I should be putting out there for my DX kit - not too high (no responses) and not too low either (people are naturally suspicious).

I could break the sytem up as well I suppose, but that will no doubt protract the sale process a lot more. I'm thinking this deal would probably only really make sense to a) someone with an FX setup that would be interested in a DX 'backup' system or b) someone who's been contemplating a DSLR system, is about to jump in and has the money to take advantage of an upfront bulk saving.

The kit consists of (mostly mint/great condition):
    D7000, 10.5/2.8 Fisheye, 10-20/3.5 Sigma, 35/1.8G, 17-55/2.8, 105/2.8 VR Macro, 70-300VR, SB700, R1 Macro Kit.

I'm thinking 42k would be 'fair', but won't sell. 35k would be a 'good deal', but would take a few weeks to move. 30k would be a 'great deal' and sell, but I would be taking a much bigger knock.

    Any suggestions?

I personally think you'll sell the gear quicker and get your money selling the goods of apart then in a complete kit.

I'd also suggest selling each item individually, as the chances of selling your specific kit to one person would be slim. Bear in mind that with the D7100 out, the S/H price for a D7000 is around R 8000...

Yep, selling separately is the way to do this.

Well that's what it potentially WILL be when the rumoured D7100 is released, but that hasn't even been announced yet, so you need not worry about that.

While I am a regular user and big supporter of the classified, you have a lot of high end kit so you may be better off taking it into a shop and seeing if they will take it off your hands as a complete set. They can sell it off piece by piece.

ODP might take it, or look at Kameraz in Rosebank.

How does vat work if odp sells second hand items are the responsible for the vat on the whole saleprice ?

Since the seller would not have been able to provide a vat invoice

Is that D7000 still for sale? Or you still selling the whole kit?

If the seller is not vat registered, he cannot charge vat or obviously furnish a tax invoice to ODP.

ODP as registered vat vendor is however obliged to charge vat on everything they sell ( whether it is new cameras, 2nd hand cameras ............ even their office chairs!); where they buy secondhand goods for resale, they can, if certain conditions are met, claim a "deemed vat input" from SARS on what they buy as 2nd hand stock from non vat vendors.

So in your example of R 25 000 paid by say ODP for the kit, the seller will receive R25 000, but their actual cost always has to exclude vat, so is R 21 930 i.e. R 25 000 less R 3 070( R 25 000 *14/114). To this they will add their mark-up and vat to arrive at their selling price.

    Still haven't decided 100%.

Most likely I'll sell the D7000 with the 17-55/2.8 and one or two other lenses as a smaller kit, and the rest separately.
