Getting Photos Printed
Can anyone advise where are the places to go in the Sandton/ Kyalami / Sunninghill/ Fourways area to get photo's printed.
I used to get my prints done at Photo First in Village Walk and they closed down. Then I used the Photo First at Chilli Lane in Sunninghill and I believe they have closed down. These places printed perfectly without any problems.
I have tried the ???? shop in Sandton City and found they print with a yellow colour cast. I find ????? in Woodmead print with a red colour cast. On Saturday I got some prints done at ?????? at Fourways Mall and they came out with a heavy amber colour cast. They insisted that it was not their machine even after I called up the picture on their computer and it looked fine on their screen.
So my question is: Where are the places to print at, that know what they are doing when it comes to printing?

Leonard are these "jpegs of the camera" or have you been editing the pics ?
My first attempts at editing was a DISMAL failure !! Calibrated my computer screen an all was resolved.
PS - laptop screens are the WORST for getting picture colours correct.

Hi Chris
Some of the pictures were un-edited and other were edited in Photoshop. All came out with an orange cast. I also never alter the colour settings, usually only adjusting levels, and removing spots. I will try printing at Fourwary Crossing this weekend and see how it comes out.

What color space is your camera and software set to? sRGB is generally the norm.

I have noticed this as well, you can take the same picture (which has been edited on a properly colour calaibrated IPS screen) to 2 different labs and get different colour casts. I had this recently, with one having a strong yellow cast and the second had some purplish cast to some of the whites.
From my experience, only the printers who specialise in large format or pro labs who deal mostly in large prints get them right. The smaller labs get so many jumbo prints and regular snaps to print that they dont really worry about your colour cast issues. I have had problems with so called "pro" labs before.
If you find out of any really good labs, this would be great to know.

The link below is to an Fuji calibration image. Slip that, UNEDITED, into you printing job and see how it comes out!
Also view it - and see what YOU see… The grey scale, for example, must be without ANY colour casts.

My experience has been that most print places tend to have all the auto correct settings enabled on their machines which try correct colour, scale, etc etc etc. When getting them printed get them to do a test print and make sure that they have all the autocorrects disabled.

I managed to get through to Photo First @ Fourways Crossing (at the entrance to the PnP) and got them to print as is. All the prints came out perfectly except for one which had a slight redness. Looking at the on screen image I can see this some adjustment.
Thanks Duncan for the hot tip. I will certaily make use of them in the future.

Good stuff Leonard, I have never had trouble with their service or quality.
They will normally open up the images in PS and go through the stuff with you to check the colours and see that the crop will print correctly.
