Acer laptop won't turn on using battery or plugged in power?

I was using the laptop then it suddenly turned off. It won't turn on again. When I press the power button, it lights for a while but then it turns off again. The power's plugged in, and the light was supposed to light up (signifying that it is plugged in), but it's not. Could this be a battery problem? What are the possible causes?

Disconnect the battery, and just leave the power cord plugged in, and try switch it on again.
