New Leica...
anyone seen this?

Leica obviously knows something that I don't... $8000 for this thing?
But that's OK - I know something they don't, and that is I'll never buy this....

Re: New Leica...
That entire lens is hand made. It's also pretty much the sharpest thing you can let light though. So there ARE some things to take into consideration.
But yeah, it's crazy.

Re: New Leica...
Have you seen the MTF chart? At f/5.6 it's basically a straight line at 80% for 40 lp/mm across the entire frame (both tangential and sagittal). At f/2.8 it's still 80% in the centre and only a bit less sharp in the corners (never less than 55% MTF). Even wide open it's better than 50% MTF across the frame at 40 lp/mm. I've never seen anything like it. Of course I can't afford one either! But it's a very special lens - I would guess it's technically the best 135 format lens ever made by anyone in the history of photography - and I'm sure production will be sold out, even at this price.

I heard about the camera, didn't hear about the lens. That is unbelievable. I thought fixed focal length optics had pretty much maxed out decades ago. It's just....unbelievable?

Kind of like a Bugatti Veyeron. A street legal 400 km/hr car serves no useful purpose, but it's way cool.

Actually, I have been musing on what would work best for me in terms of camera handling, available lenses and so on. An M9 actually makes a great deal of sense to the way I take photographs. Now all I need is lots and lots of money.

And that is why I own a chainsaw... and live in an apartment
