Calibration / Colour space etc

Confused say I want to print this image on canvas, my monitor is calibrated, the image was opened in profoto, I downloaded the Printers Profile from their website, so that I can see how the image would look like when printed, I can give the image to them and let them adjust it and see what it looks like, when it arrives, and it will probably be good, but would like to know how it looks on my screen vs the print, I downloaded two profiles one for canvas and one for paper, the image below is the Original/Epson premium glossy paper/and the Innova Canvas after turning Proof Colours on in Photoshop (I did the attached image with the Grab tool so the colour is slightly different from in photoshop, ) the original is pretty much dark brown/black , the 2nd (epson) image is slightly different and then the innova canvas image is way out,what am I doing wrong, how do I fix it, can the profiles differ that much. (it is not Black and white)Thanks

Glossy paper can get a BLACK, the canvas with THAT specific ink - can it produce a BLACK? That is the question!

The profile that the printer give you to 'proof' your prints shows WHAT gamut you can get on his printer with a specific medium and a specific ink. That is all - NOTHING MORE!

looks like you have 'simulate paper colour' selected. try turning it off. 'On' will use your monitor to simulate the dynamic range of the chosen paper. 'Off' will proof only the colour shifts and gamut clips that will occur when you convert from your working space to the paper profile.

papers with greater dynamic range show less contrast compression in softproof than ones with less dynamic range. (glossy looks a bit better onscreen than matte when you use the 'simulate paper colour' option).

Soft-proofing can be useful if you read up LOTS and you have a very accurate monitor profile and very accurate paper profiles. You have to spend some time learning how to use it to get the benefits out of it.
