You know somebody once handed Chuck Norris a ton of steelwool.... He knitted a V6 Cortina with it
    shooter

Oh Lord, thank You for the 70-200 f2.8 VRII - can now finally take pictures of the dog and kids running through the sprinklers...

    This also got my attention:
I love how he is carrying two other cameras as well with what looks like 300mm and 500mm lenses, but you don't even notice them since the 1200-1700mm is so incredibly large on its own.

Bigger is better. I think the other side also has some massive optics.

    Talking about cost - fancy spending 100 000 GBP on a lens. 6mm f2.8 = viewing angle of 220°.

Put the lens cap back on and then you have a rock steady monopod.

I have on of those in my safe at home. I found it too cumbersome and now only keep it for the same reason a dog licks his b@llsack...

1200 is still small fry. Canon made many years ago a 5200mm f14 lens. Only ever made 3 copies. http://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/forums...1&d=1169756917

... and there I was thinking the 'pimple-on-an-elephant's-butt-at-5-km' photographic special interest group was so prolific!

I can just see it ... 'I need help! I'm hand-holding my 5200 f14 lens at 1/60th of a second and I just can't get sharp images! Is there something wrong with my camera focussing system or is the lens just not working the way it's supposed to?'

Jokes aside though, that has got to be an extremely specialised lens. I presume they were made for surveillance, space launch photography, and the like. I can't see what other uses they would have TBH, except maybe the papparazzi hunting the royal family on a secluded beach somewhere.
