Re: Cape Town Photographer protest - PERMITS???
Hi Robert. I understand their concern - I`ve acted for someone who sued them because of a commercial shoot on his neighbour`s property. So they`re looking at the risk to them (perceived or real).
I still think they`re interpreting the regulations incorrectly. Unfortunately the only way to change their view would probably be to sue.
(And please don`t take this to be a recommendation)

Hi, we understand their concerns too but the problem is that they implemented a policy without thinking it through and now they refuse to acknowledge that they have made a big mistake or do anything to correct it. Sadly it seem that the only time the DA led City will respond to a situation is when the matter become political and the DA get challenged.

Sadly that will most probably be eh only way to get it highlighted, but then they will go Lager mentality.
I still believe you have to get it out there, newspaper, photo journalists should be a good in, Talk Radio, even Carte Blanche, Tourism board and travel agencies, maul them all, inform them all, mass marketing

Maybe the plan is to let JuJu know that the DA supports the Permits... then we will get a strike and mass action...

Re: Cape Town Photographer protest - PERMITS???
I think it is time to organise a gathering on a Saturday(so as not to disruot business, we are mostly hobbyists) morning to hand over a letter of grievance to Mrs de Lille, we can all come armed with SLR's and long lensesa s our traditional weapons.
But seriously we need to do this, invite the press, and get the message out there, nice honest decent talk gets you no where sadly

Is Tony Weaver a member here ?
He is also a photographer, and a well known journalist.
Now if we could get him involved ....

Re: Cape Town Photographer protest - PERMITS???
The problem both the CTPPA and the CFC is having is that despite the issue really being the implementation of By-Law Relating to Filming, No. 30441, Provincial Gazette 6279, 24 June 2005, The City went ahead an implemented system without any thought about the impact these systems would have on the freelance community. When the City has been challenged about this, Terence Isaacs and Anton Groenewald, from the City, keep steering the talks to an issue of PL insurance.
We believe that they are trying to use this as a smoke screen to cover up the fact that they have made a huge screw up and have challenged them on numerous occasions regarding this. In his latest response to the Capetowner Anton Groenewald once again tried to dance around the issues and we have replied here http://ctppa.co.za/?p=157 . I believe we have pointed out more than clearly enough why their PL insurance argument doesn't hold water.
We have also pointed out that his claims that the City has tried to engage us are false as we have evidence of trying to contact them to set-up meetings on numerous occasions and have been brushed off of ignored by officials including Mr Groenewald himself.
