    Default Light boom idea

I came across a cool idea. Remove the feet of a light weight lightstand attach a speedlight trigger with radio trigger. And you have a stunning way to direct light. Do you do anything like that?

I have a monopod that has an umbrella holder attached to the top. Can put a bare speedlight, a "Gary Fong" diffuser or an umbrella. Can extend to the length needed. Works great at weddings and functions. Needs an assistant but is ultra portable and gets the light off the camera.

Thats also a great idea. What I liked here was the thought that I could use the full 2m length of light weight stand. In the hands of a voice activated base (assistant) this becomes a great and very portable boom as well.

Has anyone done this mod? Do you think it's worth me taking the legs off a perfectly good 5 piece 2m light weight stand?

    Hi

I use a boom just like you are suggesting. Instead of dismantling a perfectly good light stand you can buy a light weight boom from Camera Light for a couple of hundred R's. I use mine with a beauty dish all the time.

I have the same boom arm as Mike. Great for use, just not really all that portable...

That clearly is a much more intelligent idea! The light stand I was going to destroy is only a couple of 100 rand - but thanks for the sanity check.

Oh. The phottix 2m 5 section stand is VERY portable about the length of a collapsed monopod and very light maybe its till a good idea after all.

Hahaha... just to clarify, it's a boom with a pretty heavy duty/wide stand, and a counterweight enough to hold a studio head and diffuser
