Migrating LR from PC to MAC

Hello all,

I have eventually got myself a MAC.... wwwoooohhhoooo, but with it comes lots of questions.... and 1 of them being how do I migrate the LR library file (alomst 7Gig) to the MAC?? Where do I store it, does it even work off the mac platform? How do I get LR to point to wherever I need to copy the library file to,

The other question/ thought is to not even bother with the above effort but just start from scratch, honestly, once I am done with a pic its really seldom that I need to go back and rework it,

I have managed to download LR3.3 for MAC from Adobe and it works fine, so that has been seamless.

Any advice will be great.

Got some raw photos today from a Mac, which were already edited, onto a PC - Imported with no issue, and it even showed the previous (MAC) edits.



not knowing the Mac system - I would symply try to copy the whole PC Library file to an external hard drive, then just import it normally into the new Mac Library.

Step 1: Create a backup.

Lightroom 3&4 is cross platform software - see instructions below or consult the adobe website.

How do I move a catalog from a Windows computer to a Mac?

Move the catalog file (.lrcat), the previews file (.lrdata), and possibly your image files, depending on where they're located. See Copy or move a catalog in Lightroom 3 Help for instructions on moving a catalog and its preview files from one computer to another. For more in-depth community tutorials, see How do I move Lightroom to a new computer? by Victoria Bampton and The easiest way to share Lightroom catalogs with different computers by Matt Kloskowski. (The community tutorials are written for Lightroom 2 but still apply to Lightroom 3.)
Note: If all of the files reside on an external hard drive that both Mac OS and Windows can read, you don't have to move anything. Open Lightroom on the second computer and navigate to the catalog on the external drive. See How can I use my catalog on multiple computers, such as a laptop and a desktop?
