Re: ODPXplorers - Park Station and surrounds
I often do shoots inside the old concourse. It will most prob be locked early in the morning but I normally ask the police to open. You definitely need flashes and torches. You can also do long exposures.

Yes.. there is plenty to shoot.. the old blue room is in complete darkness except for some light leaking through some small windows.... there are plenty side rooms in just about complete darkness... but it it a magical place for a photographer..

Good Morning Everybody,
Thank you for sharing these images, they are very sentimental to me. My father was probaly one of the last artisans in the late seventies and eighties to have been involved in the revamp of the famous Blue Room Restaurant and much of the building in and around the JHB station.
There are other passages that are below the current station as we know it, there are the secrets of the old history. I am looking forward to meet you guys when you visit again.
@ Robbie was there anything left of the museum? looking at your second picture it was to the right of the stairway coming down.

Update:
Bernard has proposed 21 March as it is a public holiday. By all means go, I'll still be sticking to my original plan which is this Sunday, sparrow-fart in Newtown, then Park Station.

@ Amanda what time do you intend being at Park Station? Any central meeting spot? Anybody else going on Sunday morning? I was hoping to have visit to Magaliesburg on Wednesday morning, I'll go have a look see. I have not had a reply to my e/mails to both spots.

Hi Amanda, only saw your post after 06h00, went through, but alas, you must have departed by 07h45. Hope you got some good shots. I have taken some but after looking Robbie's pics I don't think I can post mine here. I did discover the passage way leading to the old platforms behind some graffiti wall. I need to find the person holding the keys to the gates. I actually found an old bill board which I'll post.
With regard to the Magaliesburg, old Blaauwbank Gold Mine, struck gold, met a lady Miriam who advised they actually have guided tours from R65 to R90 in the old mine, you can bring along family and friends have a picnic and braai, they have clean rest rooms. There is also a tented camp that can be reserved at R100 pppn, personally it needs a lot of attention before I sleep over. Tours need to be pre-booked with Miriam or Martha on 082 567 3111. The road still needs a vehicle with good clearance. This is my Wednesday destination.

Ja, we got into a bit of a dong dong with an over officious security guard. turns out you need permits from the center management. so no luck, will go and get permits next week and try again. so we went and took a few photos in and around town.
