Default ODPXplorers - Park Station and surrounds

I'm thinking of going there, possibly around 12 March (Sunday). Usual story, sunrise, possibly meet in Newtown at the old platform behind the Nelson Mandela bridge, shoot a few frames then to Villiers Street and into Park Station. I'm going away next week so won't have time to scout until I get back end of February so this is a heads up for anyone who is interested. Optional suggestions welcomed.

12 March is a Monday so assume its the 11th?

That will clash with Pta outing at the station which is also on the 11th.

    I'm keen.

I think that security will kick us out very quickly but it's worth a bash.

    numerical dyslexic here, much apologies.

Okay then, no hassles to move ours to 18 February (somebody please double check!) if everyone is okay with that?

You oks can visit the Johannesburg Art Gallery while you in the area. http://www.soccerphile.com/soccerphi...t-gallery.html

I hope its a big group you have. The area around and nearby Joubert Park is not the best place to advertise your flashy cameras

The idea is to use the early morning light and hopefully some of Jozi's less savoury characters will still be counting zzzzz's when it's over.

Went there this afternoon, just walked in, no security, no nothing. The entrance is next to the Railway Police entrance and has a lock on it, but seems to be permanently open.

My wife and I spent a good hour down there with no hassles at lunchtime, so early morning shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I would suggest parking at Park Station, there is security and vehicles will be as safe as anywhere else in Joburg central. Then walk through the new into the old.

    But.

I'd like to start at the old railway platform in Carr Street, Newtown. (Map: http://www.newtown.co.za/images/map/...n_map_2008.jpg)

There were a couple of dodgy characters there so if anyone wants to meet there you'd be welcome

Planning to be there by 6am at the latest, snap a few and then head to the railway station. The light is poor down there, you can see a photo I took with my Berrycam on my FB here (ODP is being FOS when I try to upload) as well as the old railway platform in Newtown (the last two photos).

So two options, flash, or wait a little for the sun to get up. Definitely bring a torch and the widest wide angle lens you have in your repertoire. I'm definitely taking a flash and reflector.

@ Bernard, if you can organise, brilliant. I'm also going to try my side.

I can't guarantee it will be open, but as there are people living inside, chances are good that it will be. If not, the new Gautrain station is there, has a very industrial feel, will arrange permission before hand anyway.

Plenty of really old buildings around as a backup.

See you there. Pm me if you want a contact number.
