P500, decent video?

Hi

I have a background in journalism / + a little producing and I want to start making doccies this year.

On the technical side I am looking at investing in a Nikon P500, tripod, halo light and stand to start off with. I can always purchase a lapel mike as and when. I prefer to go the bridge cam route as shooting stills are a large part of what I do and it doesn't make sense for me to switch tools completely just yet.


Besides the Nikon P500; what else do you recommend? I have considered the PowerShot SX230HS and the Panasonic DMC-TZ-18/ZS8 but I'm not sure they would be of much use to me without an EVF

Nice cam, but no way to connect external mics... you would need to mix in external sound recorder like a Zoom H4N in in post. Why not swop your D300 for a D300s and use that?

Sean, thanks for that. Clearly I need to learn more about the new direction my favourite hobby might be taking.

And thanks for reminding me that I won a D300 and that it can actually be upgraded. Im using it so little this days now that I have a day job.

How does the D300s rate when it comes to making video? The D90 I read, just never really got it together with video?

It's not brilliant, but not bad... The newer Nikon cameras are much better at it though.
