Slangkop WHERE?? :)
Hi there,
I have seen quite a few stunning photo's taken at Slangkop - and would love to go practise some sunset, slow SS shots - but have no idea where to go?
Me and my hubby drove there the other day, but just cant seem to figure out where one goes in or stops to get to a spot that one has a great view...
Can anyone please give me some pointers? Also - what would be the right time to go for shoots there?
Thank man

Re: Slangkop WHERE?? :)
It is on the road between Worcester and Villiersdorp. there are a number of signs pointing them out. Most of the signs relate to 4x4 / motorcycle training venue.
as far as I know it is one of those places where you can only do the 4x4 trail as part of a guided group ....

another spot worth a visit is just outside Villiersdorp, in the direction of Worcester. As you climb the hill out of the town there is a tar road that turns left before you get to the top of the hill (cant remember now what the sign post says).
you follow this road, and then suddenly it is a steep mountain pass. and before you know it you are over the mountain and looking down into a lush valley .... must an absolute feast with autumn setting in now.

Chris I think she's talking about Slangkop lighthouse , not the mountain, ( saying "slow SS shots", I presume it refers to water) but she doesnt really say which slangkop: mountain/lighthouse)

The area I referred to was Elandskloof. It is about 1 km outside of Villiersdorp, turn left and go over the mountain.
BREATHTAKING !
PS - I drove past Slanghoek lighthouse on Saturday, even looked at it. But did not know what its name was ...

Re: Slangkop WHERE?? :)
Hey Lenchen.....Slangkop has it's challenges like anywhere else.As Leo said if you want to shoot the Lighthouse itself...best on a dropping tide.....it doesn't have to be fully low tide.....you can get away with half way to low if that suits the time you can make it.It's also good to try and make sure the swell isn't huge as the odd rogue wave can come in and mess things up for you. Also be a bit carefull as with the kelp on some of the rocks it can be a bit slippery. If you want the lighthouse itself get there say 45min before sunset so you can scout your location and see what angle works best for you.Don't rush off too quickly after the sun has set as the light continually changes and creates interest long after you might think. If you have a wide angle don't be afraid to get up close and personal with the lighthouse as this can also be interesting as in the shot of mine.Otherwise.....just experiment.....if you don't get it right the first time....it's not going anywhere....so you can always go back.Apart from that....enjoy the time there as it is quite a special place!

Re: Slangkop WHERE?? :)
I've never had a problem and have been there often up to 3/4 of an hour after sunset and have always felt safe. However having said that....never take any area for granted....you don't want to be the first statistic.I have also always been there on my own....
Sorry also forgot to add previuosly ...Take a head torch for once the sun has set and you need to make your way back over the slippery rocks...

Just for those intending to visit the Slangkop lighthouse. Well don't. It has a scaffolding around it for restoration. I drove all the way out there last night as it was a nice sunset just to find this.

Re: Slangkop WHERE?? :)
I was lucky enough to take a few photos there last year September while it was still rusty, without the new fresh paint it will have now. Should have taken more, but I was on my way to the airport!
